We were electing a president of the United States, not a Pope.

I have no clue, but I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few did. Atheists aren't truly a "group", so it's kind of a meaningless label for statistics actually. In other words, atheist doesn't even necessarily mean "anti-religion". All it means is that the person doesn't personally believe that a God exists.
I would imagine that quite a few "atheists" probably did vote for Romney simply because they thought he might mean $$$$ and Jobs.
Why? Do you have a seemingly surprising statistic to share?

I don't know that they include a specific 'atheist' category, but you can see CNN's exit poll results here.

They do say that 26% of those who are classified as No Religion, which was 12% of the sample, voted for Romney. I don't know that all those 12% would be atheists, but the atheists should all be in that subgroup.

Post #6Any who understood that the office of the President is about leading the nation and solving the problems, not about religion.moment_of_faith wrote: How many Atheist you believe voted for Romney? How many for Obama?
Any atheist who was more concerned about the fiscal future of the people of the USA instead of bandwagon ideology.
Any atheist who really WAS a free thinker and not a 'goer along with.'
That's how many atheists voted for Romney.
I hope that there were one or two.

Re: Atheist For Romney
Post #7Atheists look at both sides, not who believes in a deity. So, I was hoping Romney would explain how he would balance the budget since he had credentials (Olympics, and Massachusetts), he never did. He only played off of the whole pitch of his past record. Romney, on foreign policy, agreed with almost everything Obama said. Obama explained both his domestic and foreign policies outright. His may not be the best but at least he was honest. That goes a long way.moment_of_faith wrote: How many Atheist you believe voted for Romney? How many for Obama?
Atheists can be Republicans or Democrats just like Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus are. We look at the issues. I am an "undecided" or "swing voter" which means I wait to see what they are selling. I think everyone should be a swing voter.
Asking "how many atheists voted for Romney" is a non-sequitur. The issue is much deeper than that.

Re: Atheist For Romney
Post #8Religion was not even a factor in this election. Romney's dirty Mormon laundry (garments) were already hashed out by mainstream Christianity (I mean FOX NEWS) in the last election. Obama never once played the religion card. Hell, half of us don't even know what he believes and don't care.dianaiad wrote:

Slow your roll. This is based on assumption that Romney would do something future tense. Retract it.Any atheist who was more concerned about the fiscal future of the people of the USA instead of bandwagon ideology.
I'm a free thinker and not a "goer alonger" and I voted for Obama based on policies. Hell, I am in the military and Republicans usually treat military with more benefits, but even that didn't make me vote for Romney.Any atheist who really WAS a free thinker and not a 'goer along with.'
Geez, your prejudice and "set-in-your-ways" attitude is getting more and more snarky by the daily. That's how many atheists voted for Romney.
I hope that there were one or two.

Thank you I had not seen that, but that should scare everyone. 70 % of unbelievers voted for Obama.
