Jesus warned his disciples against suffering the judgment of Gehenna. Was he referring to a burning hell of everlasting torture? (Matthew 5:22)
The Greek word Ge'en na corresponds to the Hebrew geh veneh-Hin nom,---Valley of the sons of Hinnom. It became a garbage dump for Jerusalem, serving as an incinerator where fires were kept burning to dispose of rubbish, and anything thrown into this dump would be completely destroyed, turned into ashes.
Many Bible translators haven rendered Ge' en na as "hell." (Matthew 5:22, KJV) Why is this? (Since Gehenna and hell are two different things.) Because they associated the pagan-inspired notion of an afterlife of fiery judgment for the wicked with the physical fire in the valley outside Jerusalem. Jesus, though, did not associate Gehenna with torture. He knew that the thought of burning people alive is repugnant to Jehovah. He referred to the use made of Gehenna in the days of the prophet Jeremiah. God said: "They have built the high places of Topheth which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom in order to burn their sons and daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart." Burning people was not something that God can countenance, and He can't to this day. A good point is that the idea of torture for the dead conflicts with God's loving personality as well as with the Bible's clear teaching that "the dead are conscious of nothing." (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10)
Jesus used the term "Gehenna" to symbolize the utter destruction that would come from God's judgment on the wicked. So...."Gehenna" means, similarly, the lake of fire in Revelation. Both symbolize eternal destruction from which there is no resurrection. (Luke 12:4,5; Revelation 20:14,15.
Doesn't this sound more merciful than people being tortured in a never-ending fire? The fire symbolizes complete annihilation, just like what the fires in Gehenna did to trash and bodies of criminals.
GEHENNA, a place of fiery torture?

I understand a person having immortality as one who cannot die. How do you define it?
God is immortal because He is a spirit.
Sure it does!
Having life within themselves (whatever that is) was not part of your definition of immortal.
No, that verse is regarding Jesus.
Jesus is the only human to qualify as an heir to everlasting life under the Old Testament covenant between God and the nation of Israel. Under that covenant, one had to be free of sin to inherit everlasting life, and Jesus was the only one to accomplish that feat. Therefore, Jesus alone had immortality as an inheritance under that covenant!
The Bible defines two covenants (or testaments or wills) between God and mankind. The first was actually only between God and the nation of Israel. The reward for qualifying heirs under either will was everlasting life (immortality).
Under the first will one had to not have any sin imputed against them to become an heir unto everlasting life. But there was a fault in that will in that every man ever born had sinned, thus the will produced no heirs. How to fix the "fault"? What to do?
The solution was for the Word (God) to be made flesh as the Jewish man Jesus Christ. Jesus then lived a sinless life under the original covenant, becoming the only human to become an heir to everlasting life under that covenant. Speaking of Jesus, Timothy confirms that Jesus is the only heir to everlasting life under the original will by describing Jesus as "Who only hath immortality" (1 Timothy 6:16).
God then allows Jesus to freely share His inheritance under the original will to those who accept Him as their Savior from the wages of their sins under a new and better covenant -- which was expanded to cover Jews and Gentiles. Thus, everlasting life became a gift of God through Jesus Christ under the New Testament Covenant.
Correct.
They will have an inheritance of everlasting life awaiting them when the New Testament Covenant is probated. (at the Second Coming)
We know the scriptures are true.
That's nowhere in the scriptures nor any Bibles to my knowledge.
Multiple immortals were present at the re-creation of the earth in Genesis:
And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (Genesis 3:22)
Other immortal angels are mentioned in the Bible. So God is not the only immortal being.
God cannot lie. So believers in Jesus are guaranteed that they will become immortal.
But once the gift is received it's a done deal! It can never be rescinded.
How so? If something can die, then it was never immortal by definition!
Human believers will become immortal by being born again of the Spirit (God the Father) as a spiritual bodied being. That which born of the spirit is spirit.
After that birth, that spirit can never die. Take the devil as an example. He will be restrained in the lake of fire eternally because punishments for sinning spiritual bodied beings can never be death, as they cannot die.

. . . There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:44)
Natural can also be described as physical, earthly, or terrestrial. And Spiritual bodies can also be described as godly, heavenly, or celestial.
Each of the two body types defined in the Bible, natural and spiritual, require a separate and distinct type of birth:
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit (God) is spirit. (John 3:6)
Do you accept the Bible's statement that there are two type of bodies and that both require a unique type of birth? Yes or no?
<====================================================>
Let's then compare mankind to God and the angels.
There were originally two differences between mankind and God and the angels. Those differences were knowledge of good and evil, and body type.
Upon eating from the tree of knowledge, mankind became closer to God and the angels by being able to distinguish good from evil.
The only remaining difference between man and God and the angels now is body type. Man has a natural body and God and the angels have spiritual bodies.
Do you accept that the only difference between the angels and man is body type? Yes or no?

I wouldn't say that the only difference between man and the angels is body type. The angels have access to God personally, being able to actually see Him. Man can never do that (with the exception of the 144,000 anointed people who will reign with Christ in heaven). The rest of mankind will not see God with their eyes. The angels have access to the vast heavens and dwell in "unapproachable light" as Jesus does. (I Timothy 6:16) Mankind does not.

Post #126Man knew the difference between good and evil before eating of the tree. Why else would they be condemned? If they didn't know any better God would not have condemned them. To eat from the forbidden tree meant that they would willfully decide for themselves what was good and evil, thus giving God the proverbial finger. To keep from eating of the one tree they would show God their love and appreciation for Him. That whole thing was to give them the opportunity to continue to show their devotion and obedience. The letter to Timothy said that Adam wasn't fooled by Satan, so he KNEW what was wrong. The humans who are like the angels are those who will reign with Christ in heaven. They will have been anointed by the Spirit to rule and live in the spirit realm. There is nothing they can do to ensure their place in heaven. They aren't any better than any believer. They are just chosen by God to be born again of the Spirit. There is a relatively small number who will rule with Christ. The majority of believers will remain on the earth in Paradise conditions forever, never having to die again as long as they remain faithful. We can't even imagine the wonderful future that we have right here on this beautiful planet.

God is immortal because He is a spirit.
This opinion also would not be useful, but why may I ask, do you feel the need to state these opinions as if they are actually factual, when no where in the Bible can we find any support for them?
It is the explanation the Bible provides.
Which of the scriptures I referenced, do you not find refers to God being immortal? No, that verse is regarding Jesus.
Jesus is the only human to qualify as an heir to everlasting life under the Old Testament covenant between God and the nation of Israel. Under that covenant, one had to be free of sin to inherit everlasting life, and Jesus was the only one to accomplish that feat. Therefore, Jesus alone had immortality as an inheritance under that covenant!

Under the first will one had to not have any sin imputed against them to become an heir unto everlasting life. But there was a fault in that will in that every man ever born had sinned, thus the will produced no heirs. How to fix the "fault"? What to do?

Correct.
They will have an inheritance of everlasting life awaiting them when the New Testament Covenant is probated. (at the Second Coming)
We know the scriptures are true.
That's nowhere in the scriptures nor any Bibles to my knowledge.
Where in scripture did you find that?
I have never read any scripture supporting that idea.
Can you share one, please?
If immortal means cannot die, then that would not have applied to Adam, since everlasting can also be an indefinite period, and Adam was not promised immortality. Only the saints were promised immortality, which is a spirit body - incorruptible. 1 Corinthians 15:42-57
This is not what the scriptures say, At what point does a person have this everlasting life? Is it not under Christ's millennial reign?
Yet, the Bible tells us that a person living then, who disobeys God, will die. Revelation 20:7-9; Isaiah 65:20
Exactly.
Everlasting life is not immortality. Everlasting life is conditional.
Consider an illustration.
A device that requires no battery, or any source of power, to "live", will function "forever" (since it is man-made, 'forever', is relative in this example)
A device that requires a battery, or power source, will function "forever" (since it is man-made, 'forever', is relative in this example), only as long as the battery is connected, and functioning, or the power source is connected, and functioning.
An immortal person, is granted life within themselves from God, which means they do not need a life sustaining source. They are that source. John 5:26
A person granted everlasting life, depends on a source of life, in order to keep on living. God supplies that life. The person cannot function if that source is cut off.
That life refers to heavenly life, does it not? It does not refer to the life of those living under Christ rule, and those who will live beyond, who make up the new earth. Revelation 21:3-5
The spirits in heaven are not immortal. No scriptures say that. After that birth, that spirit can never die. Take the devil as an example. He will be restrained in the lake of fire eternally because punishments for sinning spiritual bodied beings can never be death, as they cannot die.
Those given immortality are Christ, and the heirs of the kingdom - the Saints.
The Devil is an angel, and does not have immortality.
The Bible says this:
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. Romans 16:20
And I will put enmity between you [Satan] and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will crush your [Satan's] head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, Hebrews 2:14
Are you saying the Lake of fire does not symbolize the second death?
Does the wild beast symbolize the political world powers?
Please explain why you accept that the wild beast is symbolic, and not the lake of fire.
Also, please explain how the political world powers are tormented in the lake of fire.

John 4:24
God is a Spirit:
God is immortal because He is a spirit.
The scripture at John 4:24 reads,
For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
The scriptures do not say God is immortal because he is a spirit.
I am asking you to support that statement with scripture.
You made that claim in order to claim that spirits are immortal, didn't you?
Well, no scriptures supports that.

Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden to prevent them from eating of the Tree of Life and living forever like God and the angels:
Genesis 3:
22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
