Have you ever wondered WHY God didn't just forgive Adam and Eve for disobeying his command? After all, Eve was deceived by Satan into disobeying and did not seek out the opportunity to deliberately disobey God's command. Would you have forgiven them for the sake of all mankind? Would you have said, "alright, just don't do it again". Of course you and I would have. WHY? Because we do it all the time, almost every day if you have ever raised children. You give them a command, they deliberately disobey and most times you give them another chance, and and yet another, and you forgive them because you reason that they are just children.
But your forgiveness and your understanding of sin (disobedience) isn't limited to children only, but to everyone you deal with in life. You see we are able to sympathize with other sinners because we ourselves are sinners.
BUT NOT GOD, and THAT is what separates God's view of sin from our own. This is what makes God JUST (meaning, righteous). The world can sympathize with itself regarding sin, and says, "don't worry about it, no one is perfect". BUT GOD IS. God is perfect and God is just, this means that he CANNOT sympathize with sin, He can only condemn it. And in the law book that he has written (the Bible), He condemns sin with death.
Ezekiel 18:20
The soul that sinneth, it shall DIE....
Romans 6:23
For the wages (payment) of sin IS DEATH;....
Genesis 2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely DIE.
Because God is just, His consistency on how he deals with sin will never change. Why do you think God did not allow Adam and Eve to take hold of the tree of life and live forever after they sinned? That would have been the perfect time to allow the future of mankind to have eternal life. Isn't that what you and I would have done? Would we not have said, "Go ahead and take hold of that tree of life and live forever. I realize you were deceived into disobeying me, so let's start over". But God could not do that because God is perfect, instead, he casts them out of the garden so that they COULD NOT take hold of that tree of life and live forever.
Genesis 3:22
And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, LEST he put forth HIS hand, and TAKE also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So HE DROVE OUT THE MAN; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
God did not let them take hold of the tree of life because God had to abide by his own law, a law that was not yet written on scrolls but was ever existing because that law is God himself, it is the Word of God. And God's law states that without the shedding of blood (meaning death) there is NO forgiveness of sin.
Does this sound like something you or I would have done? Casting them out so that they could not willingly take hold of the tree of life? No, we would have understood. We would have been able to sympathize with them. But you see, this ability to sympathize with wrongdoing, doesn't make us more compassionate than God, it actually reveals the evil sin nature within each one of us.
Do you believe that man is more compassionate than God?
IS MAN MORE COMPASSIONATE THAN GOD?
