Lake of fire

Post by achilles12604 »

Question for everyone. The lake of fire referred to by the traditional Christian/ Catholic/ Fundi churches.

Is it literally a lake of fire? It is figurative? Other?
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

The lake of fire is the means in which God will save all of mankind.
I thought your belief of lake of fire is figurative as what you've written above.

Peace

Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (Revelation 20:14)

That is figurative language.

The lake of fire is not a literal place where people are tormented forever nor is it a literal place where people are wholly annihilated (although that is quadrillions upon quadrillions of times more merciful it is still unscriptural).

Peace.

Adam Clark explain that verse, As death himself is abolished, means no more death (Rev 21:4).
The separation of (wicked) dead bodies and spirits no longer needed. Ecc 12:7 before the judgement those who dies, their flesh will return to dust and the spirit returns to God who gave it (the breath of life of Adam). In this case the spirit of the wicked dead bodies has nowhere to return, so they're rejoined to the second death means body and soul are destroyed through eternity.

Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

[And death and hell were cast into the lake] Death himself is now abolished, and the place for separate spirits no longer needful. All dead bodies and separated souls being rejoined, and no more separation of bodies and souls by death to take place, consequently the existence of these things is no further necessary.

[This is the second death.] The first death consisted in the separation of the soul from the body for a season; the second death in the separation of body and soul from God forever. The first death is that from which there may be a resurrection; the second death is that from which there can be no recovery. By the first the body is destroyed during time; by the second, body and soul are destroyed through eternity.

Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.(NKJV)

Adam Clark explain that verse ...
Clarke seems to have a shaky understanding of the condition of the dead, but he does seem to understand that the lake of fire is not literal but symbolic of eternal destruction (not torture).

Which proves even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Yes, body and soul are destroyed through eternity. That's what we call second death.

So the individual ceases to exist in any form?

I won’t go through this line by line, but I will say that Adam Clarke's doctrine is unscriptural.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, NOT WILLING that any should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance. (2 Pet 3:9)

And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. (John 4:14)

God has no will to torture or annihilate anyone for forever.

Peace

Yes, they will just become ashes. The Bible says it.

Are you saying yes, those that undergo the second death cease to exist in any form, anywhere.
