I always see arguments on here for what is christianity and what is not, to me theres only a couple of major things that must be agreed upon.....
1. The trinity.. I think it is pretty neccisary that a christian understands the father, the son and the holy spirit. This includes the divinity of Jesus..
2. Salvation is by Grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ.
3. The Bible is the inspired unfalable word of God.
I believe that the second one is the main one that one must understand to be a christian. if you have any thoughts on this please reply...
Christianity...

I think he has fared very well as has just about everyone that sees the obvious discrepancies. Which one are you going to ignore or rationalize away with, maybe and what if, next as you rewrite the stories to make them fit?Easyrider wrote:You haven't fared too well concerning your alleged NT "discrepancies," Goat. Want to try another one you haven't cited before (one that hasn't previously been debated)?
Anyone that thinks they are actually written by God has missed their histories.
They were written by men and copied by men. Then they were gathered together sorted and sifted by accident and politics trying to make a whole picture but failed miserably.

how did god write it? carve it in stone? use a pen and paper? or did he write it on water?mcbr4481 wrote:actually it was written by God,
including all teh gospels left out or destroyed to eliminate 'heresy'?mcbr4481 wrote: so it is compltly unified.
make up you mind!!! did god write it or were there 'gospel writers'? You can't have it both ways.mcbr4481 wrote: There is no descrepancy amoung the gospel writters they are preached repentance and faith!

I do think about it logically - the majority of so called 'sacred texts' (and there are many hundreds), the bible included, are mixture of mythology, metaphor and oral hisory.mcbr4481 wrote: please think about this logicaly...
Why does it appear that you not "thinking about this logically"
I have.mcbr4481 wrote: you have to read the new testiment as a whole not pick and choose what you want
I have also read a good deal of the koran. The complete Bhagavad Gita. Some of the Sikh Adi Granth. native Australian dreamtime creation legends. The Yoga Sutras of patanjali. Plus many others
What else have you read to inform your opinion of the bible?

well......
The Quaran, Book of morman, Bible, Confusia, Catholic catachesm, Plus many others..
Even people who don't believe in the Bible say it is by far the best religous text ever written because there are simply no flaws.. Those people just dont agree with the moral teachings.. There is no discreoancy in the New Testament. The gospel writters work together to provide differnt view points for God. They work together to systematicaly design a document that can be used to shap many different kinds of people.. If your saying that there is discrepancy, i would like to see it..
O and to note, you naming all the text you have read dosen't make you smart or dosent mean you understand them....

Unless you can give me some evidence of this it is simply your opinion - one which, based on what you have written elsewhere - i am struggling to have regard for.mcbr4481 wrote:well......

The bible is but one source of moral teachings and not necessarily the best one. Personally i find the eightfold path to be much more demanding on moral rectitude than your bible.mcbr4481 wrote: Those people just dont agree with the moral teachings..
That is the subject of much debate, here and elswhere. often it is only hermaneutic gymnastics which is able to rescue the apologist.mcbr4481 wrote: There is no discreoancy in the New Testament.
Start with the resurrection story. Look at the increasing 'supernaturalism' as the gospels progress.mcbr4481 wrote: If your saying that there is discrepancy, i would like to see it..
No - just more widely read.mcbr4481 wrote: O and to note, you naming all the text you have read dosen't make you smart or dosent mean you understand them....

Which men? The men who wrote the gospels? The men who edited them? The men who decided what exactly was to become a gospel and what was to be discarded? Which men? And why do they deserve to be trusted to be telling the truth?mcbr4481 wrote:It was written by God through those men....

the same thing happened with the quaran, men wrote down what THEY thought mohammed said and it was credited to him.

2. Salvation is by Grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ.
(Matt. 19:16-21) "And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."
Ooops.... Did Jesus forget to mention grace?
