In modern times we have people telling us that their God told them to kill. We think this absurd. But God told Abraham to murder Isaac. It doesn't matter what the outcome was, we have a precedent for God telling a human to murder another human and not, apparently, because the boy deserved to die, as did the suckling infants in another tale.
Is the command correct just because it is God's?
Was Abraham right in agreeing to commit murder?
Was it right for God to order Abraham to kill?

BUt, I want you to read the whole chapter 6 with footnotes from the JPS. Look it up or get one. It is the least embellished and translated OT. But, you will notice a common footnote. "Meaning of ancient Hebrew unknown or uncertain."

Thanks Hosea brings the mercy of God even earlier but I think Jesus said the same or was himself referencing Hosea. Point is the prophets brought forth more of God's character. Mans understanding sort of evolving with the ascent of human understanding as an ascent out of barbarism toward salvation, from killing to turning the other cheek, from sacrificing children to self sacrifice.
Matthew 9:13
