If you can only use one word to describe a characteristic of God that we should follow as an example what word would you use?
And why do you choose that word?
How are we to be like God?

Re: How are we to be like God?
Post #131God is a Spirit . . .(John 4:24)
Believers become like God by being born again of the spirit as a spirit:
John 3:6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
We will be spirits, as is God.
Thus we will be like God.

Satan said that humans could be like God. That means that they would have independence from God and follow their own wills rather than God's.

<==============================================>
There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (I Corinthians 15:44)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, or natural, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit:
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6)
God is a Spirit:
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)
To inherit the Kingdom of God, man must be born of the Spirit as a spirit:
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:5-7)
When believers are born of the Spirit as spirits, then we will have become like God and the angels in that we will have become spirits.

If humans that "have independence from God and follow their own wills" are like God, then virtually every human is like God presently!

No, they are not like God no matter how they behave!
Your problem is that you do not understand the one remaining difference between God and mankind!
There are two types of bodies, natural and spiritual.
Man has a natural body and God is a spirit.
So man can only become like God by becoming a spiritual bodied being.
And man can only become a spirit by being born of the Spirit:
John 3:6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit (God) is spirit.
So to become like God, man must be born again of the Spirit as a spirit.
Now you should understand Satan's claim as to how humans can be like God.

Re: How are we to be like God?
Post #139No, humans were never meant to have spirit bodies. We were meant to live in physical bodies on a physical earth. That's the way everything was created, if you'll just go back to Genesis to see. (Genesis 1:28; 2:15) We can't forget either that God made Adam out of the physical dust of the earth, so he had a very physical body. He was to remain that way, and all his offspring too. At what point do you say that Adam would have turned into a spirit body?myth-one.com wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 11:03 pmonewithhim wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:51 amThey are if they are following their own wills rather than God's will. Adam is no different. Adam would have become a Spirit if he was born again of the Spirit, as that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
But that has not yet happened to Adam.
