UK hostage crisis

So, what are our views on the recently-resolved hostage crisis?

Do we believe Blair that there were no negotiations? Is it a coincidence that the US is allowing visits to the Iranians we captured some time ago?

Should this incident have taken place at all? I think it's appalling that the sailors were put into a position where the could be so easily captured.

I haven't followed this too closely. I did think it rather strange that British Personnel would be in a position to be taken into custody, whether or not they were in Iranian waters. Were they just careless?

I also would be skeptical about assertions that there were no negotiations.

And finally, I am wondering how this thread fits into politics and religion? What's the religious angle here?

Gee, I don't know... how about the relations between the west and the islamic world, and/or events relating to the relationship between divisions within islam?
