Roy Moore is now the GOP candidate for a U.S. Senate seat from Alabama. Moore believes the United States should be a theocracy and that Christians should by law have advantages over other religions and that the Constitution should be subservient to his idea of the Christian God. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Moore
Moore thinks homosexuality should be criminalized and has twice been removed as a judge for refusing to follow the Constitution and insisting that the Ten Commandments should be in the courthouse.
I'm wondering if there are any DCR members who agree with him. The question for debate is whether beliefs like Moore's are appropriate in the United States and whether his beliefs are good or bad for Christianity and for the country.

This post is a great example of why evangelical Christianity is dying as it becomes more political. It has less and less to do with Jesus and more to do with politics and the sacrifice of Constitutional principles for one particular political ideology that uses a fake Christianity for political gain..
Christianity has died in the hands of Evangelicals. Evangelicalism ceased being a religious faith tradition following Jesus’ teachings concerning justice for the betterment of humanity when it made a Faustian bargain for the sake of political influence. The beauty of the gospel message — of love, of peace and of fraternity — has been murdered by the ambitions of Trumpish flimflammers who have sold their souls for expediency. No greater proof is needed of the death of Christianity than the rush to defend a child molester in order to maintain a majority in the U.S. Senate.
....
Evangelicalism has ceased to be a faith perspective rooted on Jesus the Christ and has become a political movement whose beliefs repudiate all Jesus advocated. A message of hate permeates their pronouncements....
Evangelicalism’s unholy marriage to the Prosperity Gospel justifies multi-millionaire bilkers wearing holy vestments made of sheep’s clothing who discovered being profiteers rather than prophets delivers an earthly security never promised by the One in whose name they slaughter those who are hungry, thirsty and naked, and the alien among them. Christianity at a profit is an abomination before all that is Holy.

When Christians must use their power in the government to spread their message, it is an admission that their efforts to do so have failed!
=======================================================================
United States Christians took the first step towards the USA becoming a "Christian theocracy" by selling theirs souls to Trump for his repealing of the "Johnson Amendment."
This amendment pushed by Lyndon Johnson many years ago threatens religious institutions with the loss of their tax exempt status if they openly advocate their political views.
Churches are now allowed to promote and donate without fear of losing their tax exempt status.
======================================================================
Historically, the United States Congress has been the best Congress money can buy.
Now it's just a matter of who can provide the highest bid -- Christianity or the NRA (as an example).
To the highest bidder -- goes the reward.
If Christians want a one religion theocracy in the USA -- they simply have to make the highest bids.
===================================================================
If the state is not protected from the church, the church will eventually become the state. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Iraq are a few examples.
Christian evangelicals agreed to back Trump for his promise to repeal the Johnson amendment.
Did it work? Yes, over 80% support trump. Being honorable people, evangelicals must now live up to the deal they made by supporting GOP candidates -- even those guilty of sexual assault of females, which has apparently become a "family value" among some of us republicans.
===================================================================
Whenever the Church is ready, they can now purchase the US government and force Christianity by law.
The next step is to force Christianity on all the world -- via a religious war.
Ahhh, when we win that war we will have fulfilled "The Great Commission" by spreading the gospel to all the nations.
And the end can finally come:
And they all lived happily ever after??And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Matthew 24:14)

Post #45The 'prosperity gospel' is exactly what Jesus preached against many times in his parables which often are told at the expense of the rich and the hypocrites who cite the letter of the law and and defile the spirit or intent of the law. His turning over the tables of the money changers in the Temple is a clear indication of what his opinion would have been about the TV evangelists and others who get rich by exploiting believers.brianbbs67 wrote:Danmark wrote: [Replying to post 36 by dlsmith2959]

Today, the prosperity gospel preaches that being rich is a sign of God's approval. This is absolutely the opposite of what Jesus preached. "Selling your soul" is a literary device which only a fool takes literally. It refers, in this case, to those who call themselves Christians, but are really out for material and political gain.
Roy Moore is a prime example of someone who preaches Christianity while inside he is full of "dead men's bones." He preaches while defiling the 1st amendment and young women.

Re: Roy Moore and the belief in a Theocratic America
Post #46I think the point of the article is that true Christianity is dying. Part of what is killing it is Roy Mooreism, where hypocrisy, greed and power seeking is replacing true Christian virtues. These phony Christians are not seeking the Kingdom of God, but mammon.Bust Nak wrote:But it's not dying though, it's corrupt to the core but stronger than ever. I know several true Christians who are reluctant to use the term 'Christian' because of those who wear their 'faith' on their sleeves, but not in their hearts. In the meantime, Christianity is declining in America and moribund in Europe.
"White Christians, once the dominant religious group in the U.S., now account for fewer than half of all adults living in the country."

"White Christians are no longer a majority in America, but they still make up nearly three-quarters of the Republican Party...."

The idea that America could ever become a viable Theocracy is so utterly absurd that anyone who thinks that this could even remotely be possible cannot be thinking clearly.
For one thing, what kind of a Theocracy could it become? It would necessarily need to become a "Christian Theocracy" since the vast majority of Americans are "Christians" <--- and I put "Christians" in quote because it's truly a meaningless term that I'll explain shortly.
But first, let's realize what a Christian Theocracy would require. All other religions would necessarily need to be declared false and even "illegal" in a Christian Theocracy. So there goes the "Freedom of Religion" immediately. We need to see the arrest, persecution or deportation of any non-Christian Americans. Those people would not be suitable for a Christian Theocracy.
But that would just be the tip of iceberg. After all the non-Christians were either incarcerated or expelled, then the "Christians" would need to embark on their own internal Holy Wars.
And this is why I'm putting the term "Christian" in quotes. It's a meaningless term.
If the USA became a Christian Theocracy the next question would become; "Which version of Christianity should we follow?".
And then we would see the wars between the Catholics and the protesting Protestants erupt. And it wouldn't just be Catholics versus Protestants, but the Protestants themselves would be at war with each other due to their many disagreeing Protestant demoninations.
In short if the USA ever became a "Christian Theocracy" all that could ever lead to would be certain internal civil war between the "Christians" themselves.
That's all it could ever lead to.

Re: Roy Moore and the belief in a Theocratic America
Post #48Let's not forget that Christianity is a major part of the black communities in America as well. In fact, I just watched a documentary on how hard it is for black atheists to be open about their atheism in black communities. The black communities frown on atheism every bit as much as the white communities, maybe even more so.Danmark wrote: "White Christians are no longer a majority in America, but they still make up nearly three-quarters of the Republican Party...."
I also just saw a news program where a black pastor was supporting Roy Moore!

These religious people don't care about morality at all. All they care about is getting their religious views into the government.

Post #49I say the man has the right political ideal - regardless of his personal life long ago.historia wrote: It would be intellectually dishonest to dismiss such evidence out of hand as nothing more than a "smear tactic."
I myself was a young idiot and a fool until my conversion at the age of 25, and even then it took me another 5 years to work out some of my other issues.
I did see the Lawyers for Moore on TV as they brought out the contradicting info that the woman had a untold divorce case which gives her reason to falsely accuse Moore out of her own bitterness and spite.
And the evidence that the Year Book signature was fake is another reason to see the accusers as just using smear tactics - especially the "DA" on the signature was copied from the Court order because an assistant DA would never (would never) refer to their self as the DA, and especially not in writing.
Let us never forget the weepy teary and LIAR of Anita Hill, who played the innocent defenseless little girl when she was really a trained Litigator who had worked as a Prosecuting Attorney and so she was not so "meek" as was her pretense.
Roy Moore is still correct that God and Christ need to over rule the Constitution.

So are you saying that you want to overthrow the free democracy of America in favor of a Theocratic dictatorship?
Who will rule this new Theocracy?

The Catholic Pope?
Nope?
Then who?

Roy Moore?
This idea that America should be overthrown by Christian Theocracy is truly nothing short of insane. Who would be the leader of this new Christian Theocracy?
