Revolution
Post #1Many Christians have claimed that the US constitution is a work of god. Would a Revolution against it for a better government be a sin against god's established law? Lets say that our government in the USA becomes a Christian based government. Would it be heretical to oppose it? Think back to King Geaorge before you answer.

Post #11As we evolve and societies grow, governments will change to meet the needs of the people. Our government is good but it is not necessarily the best. That why we continue to tweak it.WinePusher wrote:The Roman Republic was a good form of government if we're approaching this issue form the perspective of political freedom, but the Roman Empire certainly wasn't. It depends on how you define what a good government is. My definition is where the people in society have free and fair elections, there are checks on governmental power, term limits, etc. The United States does this the best. Will there be a government system that is more free than the one we currently have? Possibly, but unlikely. Only people who oppose freedom and liberty would want to overthrow the current United States government and implement a new form of governance.Nickman wrote:The Roman Republic lasted 500+ years. The Roman Empire lasted 350+ years. They were great systems of government. The political system in the US may be the best right this moment but its not the best of all time. Even the best forms of government fall. Our Government has only been around for 240+ years. Only time will tell.WinePusher wrote:The United States has the best political system in the world, and it's entirely due to the constitution. There is nothing better than what the United States has. How many governments presently on this planet have been around longer?
That is, how many governments, presently existing, have been continuously in power, without substantive changes, longer than the US government has?
The answer to that one just might shock you. Here's a hint, though: you can count them on the fingers of one hand and have some left over. Some think that you would have four fingers and a thumb left over.
We ain't the new kids on the block, Nickman, and haven't been for a rather long time. That may not make us the 'best' (depending on how one counts that...) but it arguably makes us the most stable.

Post #15You overlook the fact that the Roman Republic was a republic and a very good governmental system. Our government was formed by taking notes on what worked and what didn't in history. In history we are the new kids on the block. We are very young. We are a half life of the longest government system that ever ruled. We have good ideas. So did they. Every government works off of what works and keeps the masses satiated. We have changed drastically here in America. If you don't think so take a look at the Patriot Act which took away more of your rights than you can even imagine.dianaiad wrote:"only?"Nickman wrote:The Roman Republic lasted 500+ years. There free speech law keeps groups such as Westborough Baptist Church from picketing soldiers funerals. We could definitely use that here.WinePusher wrote:The way Canada does free speech is horrible and would never be tolerated in the United States.Nickman wrote: Do we ever hear problems about the Canadian government? Free speech, in my opinion, is one of the world's most overrated concepts. Why should one have the right to say things that are only intended to attack, belittle, hurt, or harass others? Why, for instance, should the Westboro Baptist Church have the right to picket funerals, or neo-Nazi groups have the right to call for a second Holocaust?

I personally thing the U.S has a horrible political system, except for all the other ones out there.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Re: Revolution
Post #20I overlook nothing. Except that the Roman Republic fell to many of the problems that our Republic (and we are a republic, not a democracy) is falling heir to. I am also not overlooking the fact that there is no Roman Republic at the moment, and hasn't been for over two millenia.Nickman wrote:You overlook the fact that the Roman Republic was a republic and a very good governmental system.dianaiad wrote:"only?"Nickman wrote:The Roman Republic lasted 500+ years. Just sayin'.

Not as many, I contend, as the IRS has just done, but still....
