I've just joined - is this the place for me?

Hello everyone,

I've just this second joined.
Church of England (but heretical)
Learning Buddhist Meditation
Practicing T'ai Chi

Currently reading: Karen Armstrong, Eisenmann, Merton, Christopher Jamison, Tenzin Palmo.

Trying not to take myself too seriously - so respectful but often light hearted with a tendency towards humour given half a chance.

Currently wondering:1) How Lot's behaviour in Sodom would have squared with general moral values in 3000BC 2) Is the creation story in Genesis all about humility versus arrogance?

Am I in the right place? What's the general culture among posters here? O:)

Welcome! There are people with all sorts of different beliefs here and you won't be branded a heretic and banned by the admin if you come up with something they disagree with. You will however be challenged. :)

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

This forum is VERY fairly administered and moderated. The site owner / administrator is a theist who shows absolutely no partiality toward any point of view in the conduct of the forum. Moderators are evenly divided between theists and non-theists -- and are very fair.

The "level playing field" is NOT to the advantage of theists because everyone is expected to substantiate claims -- and "because god (or the bible) says so" is not acceptable.

Be aware that becoming a regular member here can be addictive.
