I always wanted to refer to myself as a noob, (too many MMORPGs I guess) here's my chance!
I live in beautiful Northwest Washington,
I was raised extremely conservative baptist, It would have been easier to out myself as gay than as pagan, (I'm not gay or pagan, at one point in time I considered myself both, but thankfully spared myself the outing) As luck would have it I was kicked out of the family for "living in sin"
Sadly, it seems most "real life" people I try to debate or discuss religion with either remind me it's impolite or tell me if I don't currently consider myself a christian, than I never was one to begin with.
I am eager to get to know you all!

Hi, ravenssong and welcome to the forum. Rest assured you will find a little bit of discussion concerning religion here.

Par la nuit si noire.
Tu attends, et je tombe

Et je vole,
Et je coule
Comme une plume.''''

Hi Noob,
It is indeed beautiful where you live. My wife and I spent some time near Chehalis (which must be about fifty miles from you?) and thoroughly enjoyed the area. We were married near Estacada, Oregon and spent time in that area also. Our home is an RV and has been for our entire married life (a decade) and for me many years previous.
Congratulations for recovering (apparently) from the CB upbringing and for daring to "live in sin".
Most of us understand what you say about the inability to discuss / debate religion in person. Although one encounters all the same lame pro-religion "arguments" (pronouncements) and some of the delusions of "Christian superiority" here too, the playing field is level. The forum is very fairly and intelligently moderated / administered. Here people are expected, and required by forum rules, to substantiate their statements and claims – which is an unfamiliar and unfriendly condition for most religionists, particularly fundamentalist proselytizers.
Make yourself comfortable – but be careful. -- this can become addictive. (See the "Time spent here" thread http://debatingchristianity.com/forum/v ... 4&start=10)

Welcome the the site, Noob!
I'm hearing ya when it comes to people trying to say "you were never a true Christian". You'll get plenty of that from this site (but fortunately not from most of our respected long serving Christian members). It seems after 30 years of genuinely following Christ, even that's not enough to prove that I was one, even though I did everything that a good Christian should have done. ie, was born again, baptised, prayed every day, studied the word, got involved in ministries, (all done because I loved God, wanted to please him and enjoyed being involved) It seems that God was quite happy to let me believe I was worshiping him, even when apparently I wasn't.
I try to tell myself to not let it bother me when people say ignorant, judgemental stuff like that. But it's still something I'm learning, only having been an ex-Christian now for about 2 years.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
