All religions (well, most), teach that their way is the right way.
As an Ex-Xian, I realize that the church and people who push the Xian religion are either dellusional, disingenuous, or manipulative. I see no good, whatsoever, in Xians who would tell people that Xianity is the best, or right, religion. Nor, do I see Muslims, Jews or other religionists who press their religion as honest or good.
Why? Because more and more, if you approach religion from the perspective of mythology and legend, you see the same EXACT patterns. However, the believer is taught from an early age that credulousness - the belief in something despite the obvious flaws in credibility - is a virtue. And, so, like fighting to stay afloat instead of drowing, they kick and scream against the waves.
However, in this analogy, the waves are a figment of the Preists imagination. They are not drowning nor swimming. The fight against the loss of Faith is illusionary.
I know I felt it. I remember I was 20 before I dared pick up a book by Madalyn Murray O'Hair. The fear was palpable that I was going to be seduced by the Devil. Of course, the religionists will say that my feeling was "god talking to me", but it wasn't. It was years of fear instilled in me from the church and parents.
I tell this story because I see the same thing in the apologetics of Xians now. The fear that they will somehow break from the favor of God and they will forever be shunned and sent to Hell. They read the Bible and see truth in it that can't be justified or cooberated and they refuse to see what amounts to Xianity being simply yet another religion. It is yet another mythology.
It is odd to be on the other side: to have been a believer - I went to Bible camps, preached to people, "testified" and swore Jesus was my Lord and Savior - and now, I am embarrassed that I was so gullible.
The divisiness of religion: the hatred for logic, reason and normalcy, is so incredibly damaging that I still shudder at the views I held towards other human beings: I hated/was afraid of gay people, hated/was afraid of people who had abortions, hated/was afraid of people who didn't believe in Jesus.
There was built-in "Us vs. Them" mentality - a "If you're not for God, you're for Satan" - that permeates the Xian community. It really is there. When Xians get together, they speak of trying to spread the Word, and to avoid the temptations of Secularists and other Evils. They rue lack of Faith, and honor those people who are "warriors for God" - honor the people who are vocal about their religion. They LOVE the idea of sacrificing yourself for your belief - especially if you do it on blind faith. I see it everyday on the subway_ some poor schmuck who feels compelled by his peers at church to preach the gospel to the innocent and captive audience just trying to get to work that morning. Xians, especially, love the idea of the persecuted believer. They think if they speak up, and someone mocks them, that they have somehow earned a place near their other favorit4e marytrs. It's utterly foolishness.
And, They are at constant War. I was at constant War.
That kind of hatred (for what Xians believe is Righteous Anger and Hatred, and thus Good) wears a body out. It is ugly. It is divisive. It is unproductive. (No wonder Xians tell you not to wory about money or belongings - they know you won't have many, because you become an outcast and they want you to feel good about it).
The reason I post; the reason I fight against religionists is because they are wrong. Objectively wrong and dangerous.
There are "wolves, sheep and sheepdogs". The wolves want to harm and take.(religionists.)
The sheep are people who just want to live their lives (and are the pray of the wolves).
And the Sheepdogs protect the innocent; the sheep.
Divisiveness has a purpose - the religionist see it because it makes them money, and brings them power. However, I would rather be a sheep dog and let people live the lives they wish, without the fear-mongering, and irrational misology perpetrated by the wolves (Xians, Muslims, Jews and other religions).
I am for divisiveness if it keeps Muslims from blowing themselves up, or Xians from preaching snake-oil after-life schemes.

Post #1Imagine the people who believe ... and not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible.... It is these ignorant peoplewho would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us...I.Asimov
