I have noticed that it is fine to mock Muslims, but not Xians. While I understand that Xians BELIEVE they are always being persecuted, it is really the minorities that are: Mormon's (see how Romney was attacked for his crazy religion), Muslims (because of their crazy religion), atheists (because of their crazy Logic, Reason and Science), and Jews (for, well, apparently, killing God and charging interest, or something - haven't quite figured that one out).
I know we live in a Xian country, and that most of the English speaking world is Xian, but is there a double standard?
I am convinced that Xians have a coded language and an "aw, poor me, I'm just a humble servant of God" attitude that allows them to say the nastiest things imaginable.
Gay? Well, I'm afraid you should be tortured for eternity.
Non-believer? Well, Iim afraid I don't make the rules, but it's torture for eternity for you.
They, and other religionists harbor these brutal and disgusting thoughts. They relish in the Apocalypse as if it will finally end the ugliness and evil of all those they oppose. And, of course, they will be whisked away to Heaven on a cloud for being so passionate for Good and Love.
I just find the hypocrisy and blindedness intolerable - and yet, I don't feel they should be tortured. Only mocked.
Is there something wrong with me? Should I want them tortured, as they wish me to be?

Socially Acceptable Mocking

Mocking always makes for more entertainment and amusement than torture.

Often I find myself wincing for the Christian. Like...arr...ooohh...do you know how stupid that sounds?................O you don't.......arrr......O dear
But then I have like a zillion posts that get deleted before they actually get posted. One's where I found myself saying arr...oooh...do you know how stupid that sounds?....O dear.
Mocking is self defeating I think. Just keep pointing out the logical fallacies, invalid inferences, unwarranted premises etc. The dryer the tone the better. That is the best way to mock a poor argument.

Mocking is an important social tool. It lets us know that, say, that the general population doesn't like it when people mock people, by mocking those people who are mocking people. Maybe a poor example...

Ridiculous.

In my opinion, no religion should ever be mocked as it can be hurtful to the believers of the particular religion you are mocking. It may mean nothing to you but surely for the other.
Again, just my opinion.
Again, just my opinion.

This is completely the opposite of my opinion.Truth_Teller wrote:In my opinion, no religion should ever be mocked as it can be hurtful to the believers of the particular religion you are mocking. It may mean nothing to you but surely for the other.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to mock any and all religions. I don't here, because I suspect that it would get me thrown off the board eventually, and I am not really the kind of person to do so. Also, the followers of those religions often take the mocking of their chosen path as a mocking of the individual, and it does not make one jot of difference that it isn't anything of the sort.
If I think something's daft, I should be allowed to say so. If one is liable to be upset by someone criticising one's chosen religion, one should probably not attempt to debate its merits with those who don't hold to it. To expect others to just smile and nod politely while one reels off some pretty bizarre beliefs (and often expect you to give them merit, even convert to them yourself) is not only unrealistic, but also unfair. Also, if one gets upset by such things, it tells me that ones belief is a shaky thing.

^Criticism there should be, that´s fine. But what I mean is that a line should be drawn between criticising/disagreeing and mocking.
