Why can't God kill people?

Post by scorpia »

This thread could have gotten a bit further, or I have forgotten any argument that had lasted so after a while I figured why not start up something similair.

My own argument is based off one of Aesop's fables, (or at least found in a book full of them) where one man sees a ship full of men go down and says that the Gods are cruel for killing so many people. Then the man proceeds to stomp a nest of ants after one bit him. Another man comments on how it is okay for the first man to kill a bunch of ants but it isn't for the Gods to kill people when people are nothing but insects compared to them.

So why can't God do as he does? Why does it make him unsound in people's eyes when they do the same to other beings?

(Good) Parents don't stomp on their children.
God is a good parent, therefore. . . .

In context of the story, God kills. His actions can be judged in the same way that Nurse Rached could be.

And I know that the almighty sky daddy won't send me to eternal torment in the flames of hell after I die.

Neither fact bars me from evaluating the morality of these hypothetical actions.

Morality is irrelevant anyways. It's a tool. So your moral evaluation not only is completely useless, but it will conflict with about 90% of the world anyway. When one's ego is too large to understand that people think differently about certain things, well thats when you get religion.

Men do not want ants to follow them.
It is hard to follow a God when you are dead.

Ask those from the flood if God can kill or not?
I of course say that God never killed anyone. It would be against His law and the lawmaker, to maintain the respect of those He commands, would never break His own law.

It is grammatically incorrect to capitalize "his" in a sentence as well as "god."

God is capitalized in a sentence if it is being used where you would expect a proper name, following normal grammar.
  • I will not pray to God.
  • I have to return the car to Father.
But it is not to be capitalized if it is being used as a normal noun.
  • I will not pray to anyone's god.
  • I have to return the car to my wife's father.
Pronouns need only be capitalized if they appear at the beginning of a sentence. There used to be a rule that pronouns referring to deity should be capitalized. This rule has been dropped in the New International, The Message, New Living, Contemporary English, English Standard, New Century, American Standard, King James, Young's Literal, Darby, Wycliffe, Worldwide English and New American. And retained in New American Standard, New King James, 21st Century King James, New Life and Holman.[/list]
