Question for all . . .

What impact has this forum had on you personally and your beliefs (or non-beliefs)?

Do you view the world differently today than you did when you first started here? How?

Do you view other people differently today than you did when you first started here? How?

What do you enjoy or appreciate MOST about this forum?

What would you like to see change?
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

I have started to articulate in a more precise way what were perhaps just half formed notions kicking around at the back of my brain. So I’d say this forum has drawn me out.

I am shocked and dismayed that anyone can in all seriousness believe in YEC, and some of the arguments against evolution attempted by theists frankly still make my jaw drop. If I see the world differently - it is that I thought that YEC and anti evolutionist were lying. They really did not believe what they were saying - but somehow just felt compelled to say it.. Sometimes I get the sense that is the case. However, I have now come to see there are plenty of theists out there that really believe the arguments they present against evolution are any good.

Quite a few of you have grown on me. I’ll not name them. But you’ll probably know whop you are. Guys like QED, McCulloch are utterly consistent. So my opinion has not changed of them. Micatala often sneaks in under the radar. But again always sound as a pound. Confused is on her own journey and it is possible to see a different Confused from the one who I first read when I joined. Achilles - you son of a gun - are showing yourself to be the most open minded debater here in that you really do seem to be testing and evolving your arguments and ideas. Cathar1950 always makes me smile. I always enjoy reading Cmass and Bernees. Zz is consistent, and Rathpig has got off to an impressive start. However I’d say the two people who my opinions have changed most about are Fisherking and Twobitsmedia.

Fisherking is wrong on just about everything :eyebrow: , but I have sensed in him a real efforts to engage with whatever questions he is debating. I have come to appreciate his tenacity and effort. Twobitsmedia on the other hand declined in my estimation after a time. Again I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum but I thought he started off very well. However he went through a phase of making evasive posts that played with language. His posts started to come across as very defensive. I’m not sure if he has come out of that phase yet. I feel that his arguments would certainly be stronger if he were to give each post a little more thought. Citing sources and critical analysis goes a long way in protecting a position. Just a suggestion.

As Furrowed Brow so kindly pointed out, my journey is in a constant state of fluctuation and I wish I could say I have more answers than questions at this point. But to be honest, for every answer, 2 more questions arise. I don't know what my views on some things may be tomorrow. One thing that he obviously has missed is that despite my fluctuations, my view will reflect growth in some areas and recesses in others. But the net product is always a gain.

I have found quite a bit of weariness of many of my first opinions of posters here. Reading the site for almost a year or so before I actually joined it, I thought I had some fairly good perceptions of some of the most popular posters. I am both happy and sad that I have been wrong in many cases.

What do I enjoy the most, learning. Many assume that people are raised with some foundation of belief. Many assume that people can logically come to certain conclusions if given the correct information. What I have enjoyed the most is learning that I am not the only one who is lost (though I am likely the most vocal about it). That despite the same information, I cannot always come to the logical conclusion I would have thought would have been so easy to defend.

I wouldn't change anything about this forum right now. Despite some of the most obnoxious and annoying posters, I find that their contributions give value to many discussions and I discover that sometimes, their contributions teach me more and make more sense than I would have ever believed had someone just said the same things in passing.
What we do for ourselves dies with us,
What we do for others and the world remains
and is immortal.
