Movie Heros

Post by achilles12604 »

I just finished watching the lord of the rings series (again). I had a thought come to mind. All through the movie, Frodo is looked at as the protagonist. He is the main "hero" who must carry the ring to its destruction. While I did buy this as a noble quest, there is one character who I hold in higher regard than Frodo and that is Sam. Frodo's gardener. The loyalty, courage, strength, honor and heart shown by Samwise, really blew me away.

So I am curious, what characters do you consider "heros" in the movies you see? What fictional (or real) character gives you pause to think, "I should try to be more like that"?
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

I don't really have movie heroes. Though there are characters that have got under my skin.

Chance the Gardener - Being there
Forrest Gump
Ripley - Alien
All the astronauts in the Right Stuff.
Enzo and Jacques - The Big Blue.

Ooh and McMurphy - One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

Selena (Kate Beckinsale)- Underworld: Because she doesn't allow emotions to interfere with her job. She carries out her executions without impunity. And she looks HOT in leather.
Kate Hudson- Never Never Land: Despite dying of her illness, she did her best to carry out a normal life for her and her children, she lived life to its fullest to the very end.
The two main characters in "The Notebook" for proving that love can transcend all.
What we do for ourselves dies with us,
What we do for others and the world remains
and is immortal.

Why? What traits stand out?

I don't think I've ever consciously thought I should try to be more like someone else. I just endeavor to be the best me I can be, and so I don't compare myself to anyone else in that way.
Beyond that, isn't everyone a bit of a hero? There are some pretty amazing garbage men out there. I can't imagine the level of nasty they have to touch on a daily basis or what my neighborhood would be like if they didn't do it. They ride those trucks in the rain, snow, 100 degree heat, and they heft all that crap. I'd die! So for today, if I had to choose, I'd go with my garbage man.

I agree that everyone has the potential to be a hero. But I work with about 1500 people and of them, I have partial respect for maybe 10. There are very few heros in our jails, despite what "jail break" shows.
