Mrs. Smith recently died. A sad day for all those whose taudry world revolve around the porn and smut industry.
She married billionaire J. Howard Marshall at the age of 29. He was 89 I believe. He died the next year.
I am willing to assume she married him for money rather than love.
Is there anything wrong with this?

Marrying for money
Post #1It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

Post #2Though I don't believe in love, I am hoping she married for it rather than money. There has to be some decent people still in the world.achilles12604 wrote:Mrs. Smith recently died. A sad day for all those whose taudry world revolve around the porn and smut industry.

Decent people . . .
Does this mean that you believe marrying someone for money to be a detractive or immoral action? Why?
After all in most countries today (especially our own) Marriage has become something of an econmic or social institution. It has been done away with by many people who simply chose to live together and even have and raise families without ever being married. It has become nothing more than a paper to many people.

Post #4Marriage has almost always been mostly an economical system. Now it is more political or institutional. I believe in marrying anyone for anything other than love to be stupid. Hence, not married. Since I don't believe in the accepted form of love and mine is so utopian I have no worries of falling victim to it, I would still like to believe that there are people out there who may be delusion in their thinking that they are in love, but they marry for that delusion rather than wasted materialistic gain.achilles12604 wrote:Interesting how you put that. . .Confused wrote:Though I don't believe in love, I am hoping she married for it rather than money. It made him happy. She didn't get any of his money after his death.. but the noteriety gave her the attention she craved.
On the other hand, I do know of someone (someone my mother worked with), that was given an offer to marry someone terminally ill with cancer. SHe would be
his care taker for the last year or so of his life, and then she inherits his possessions. That was the deal ahead of time, and she did so. He got a live in nurse, she got a lot of money. Good deal for both of them.
Often , now, marriage is a economic insitution.

Re: Marrying for money
Post #7Actually she was awarded 474 million dollars. Then it was taken away. The most recent supreme court decision is that she did get the money. That was 2006.goat wrote:Peopel who marry for money usually earn it.achilles12604 wrote:Mrs. Smith recently died. A sad day for all those whose taudry world revolve around the porn and smut industry.

"Relationships are just two people waiting for something better to come along"-Will Smith. Marriages are nothing more than another degree of extreme mankind in their infinite amount of stupidity condemns themselves to yet antoher form of torture.

Women die younger though. Must be the stress.
