I wanted to put this in the general chat to open up a dialogue between Christians and non-Christians. I don't want this to turn into a debate or "let's slam the Christians." I am humbly willing to open myself up to constructive criticism as to how I can better portray my faith. I welcome any constructive ideas.
The reason that prompted me to post this topic was a recent experience my wife and I had.
Last Sunday afternoon we went for a walk after Church and entered another Church in our neighborhood. It was fairly old with some interesting architecture. The doors were open so we went in to admire the building. No one was in there with the exception of what I am assuming was the care taker. My little girl who is about a year and half old was toddling along and touched a book. The care taker abruptly suggested we should leave and take her outside in a rather harsh tone. My wife got irritated with this man and shot back, "Didn't Jesus say," and she repeated Matthew 19:14 which says, "Let the little children come unto me and don't forbid them." We stayed for a few minutes longer partly I think out of sheer rebellion. The kicker was the care taker's dog was running freely around inside the church! Possibly he was having a bad day, who knows.
I distinctly remember getting the feeling that if I were a non-Christian and seeking, I probably would have seen this as another example of a poor display of Christianity.
So I wanted to give any one an opportunity to either share an experience or simply give a constructive suggestion for Christians as to how we can better portray Christianity.
I ask that we only remember Christians are not perfect. We are human too. We do and say stupid things just like every one else.

amen to that brother! i think the reason that Christians get such a bad rap sometimes is that we portray ourselves as so holy and we are such self righteous bigots! If we could just admit that we have problems and be open i think it would make a huge difference. i am no better or worse than anyone else and i need to realize that more often.
