Hello Everyone
I'm new here and wanted to say hi and give an introduction to who I am and what I am doing here.
I am a person of many interests, but the common theme of my interests is 'learning.' I love to read, my 500+ book library is my most prized possession, and all I want for Christmas are books (seriously). My main interests lie in the sciences (such as biology, math and physics), ancient history, and different religions.
I am also a writer, I write poetry and fiction. I also have a degree in biology and I was a nurse before this degree but I got sick and couldn't work as a nurse anymore. After I got a degree in Biology I wanted to farther it by getting a PhD in genetics, but silly me took Latin for the hell of it and fell in love with Latin and ancient history. So I dropped the program and went for a degree in Latin and Ancient history.
On a personal note, I live in western NY with my girl friend. I grew up in Boston though. I lived in KY for a few years, which I loved ... surprisingly. I have lived in many states, the most beautiful being GA. I volunteer at a reptile rescue and rehab clinic and I personally care for three reptiles that I have rescued from abusive 'people.' I have no tolerance for people who abuse animals and will lose my cool if I witness it (i have the mugshots to prove it). I am highly addicted to caffiene and I can be very opinionated...but I try not to be bull-headed!
I am here because I enjoy this topic and I want to learn how to have productive and logic-based debates about this subject with others who have respect for people. There is way too much 'fighting' on this subject at other sites and people cannot stop themselves from attacking the character of other people rather than countering another's argument.
I want to learn how to put arguments together and express them logicly and effectively. I have a lot of knowledge, I just don't know how to 'get it out there' yet. AND, I have a lot to learn, which I hope to do here.
I look forward to getting to know all of you!
Tifaney

Welcome to the forum Antigone!
I love to read as well.
Unfortunately, I tend to buy books faster than I can read them.
Fortunately, I just bought a new house that has a basement.
Unfortunately, it's not yet finished so all the books are in boxes.
I love to read as well.

Otseng, I have the same problem ... I buy em quicker than I can read em...
Sometimes I stand there at my huge bookshelf and want to read them all at once, but i am only human, and cannot read 12 books in one day, like i want.
Then I have another problem, like i have for the past two night. I start reading a book that is great and cannot put it down, not even to eat or sleep. I rarely read fiction, but my girlfriend bought me this book called "Ireland" by Frank Delaney. Its kinda like a Historic/myhtology/folklore fiction about Ireland. Kept me up the past two nights.
Then I have this other problem....I need another book shelf, the two I have are way too full.

I love to read as well. I always have two books on the go. Currently, Rosalind Franklin, the Dark Lady of DNA by Brenda Maddox and The Great Transformation, The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions by Karen Armstrong.
We also have the book storage problem. I cannot be solved by more book shelves, since there is no place to put one more book shelf. When the books we have exceed the shelf space, we bite the bullet, collect the books that we must honestly admit we will not be re-reading in the next five or so years and take them to the used book store. It is sad but necessary.

Nope. But, all you have to do is participate in any of the debate topics and you'll start getting some. Or, if you want to get a quick 250 tokens, all you have to do is convince a friend to join the forum.Antigone wrote:I don't have any tokens ....![]()
No preliminary ones???
