I would like to discuss the themes of salt and yeast in the Bible , as I am not very clear on their meanings.
I know Christian believers are referred to as 'salt of the earth' by Christ, a term we still use in the modern time to describe people who are 'a good sort'.
Yeast seems constantly frowned upon, a negative thing.
So any thoughts on this would help me understand.

It's not that yeast is frowned upon, but like so many other things is a symbol of an Israeli event, in this case a distressing one; their flight from Egypt.
"Unleavened bread is a symbol of the Israelites’ haste when they left Egypt. “The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. ‘For otherwise,’ they said, ‘we will all die!’ So, the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing” (Exodus 12:33-34). "
