Does Islam want to take over Britain
Post #1This when you think about it (Britons mainly) is a relivant question to what we see in British society. Muslims seem to want Britain for themselves, some people are thinking that if Islam gets into the British goverment then thats the end of Christians in Bristain.

You're joking, right? I mean, the UK is an official theocracy. A christian one. It would not be legal, under the current constitution, for a non-anglican government to be formed.Muslims seem to want Britain for themselves, some people are thinking that if Islam gets into the British goverment then thats the end of Christians in Bristain.
And the current Big Issue over there seems to be whether muslim women can even wear veils.
Anyway, I think the UK government has the situation well in hand. When your Princess seemed likely to convert to islam, she was promtly "dealt with" by you secret service, right? No worries there.

Everyone want's to impose their will on the rest of society.
That's why we have democracy; to attain a middle ground amoung all the various factions.

Like Canada the titular head of state for the UK, the monarch, is also the titular head of the Anglican Church, the established church of England but not of Canada. Constitutionally, we nor they, can have a head of state who is not Anglican. The good thing is that our head of state is merely an anachronistic figurehead and does not really function as head of state.Cataclysm wrote:A theocracy, the UK?

That may be true for Canada, but I'm not so sure for the UK.The good thing is that our head of state is merely an anachronistic figurehead and does not really function as head of state.

Re: Does Islam want to take over Britain
Post #8I think this is a political Q. I am a christian. To my mind, after 911, it is clear that islam wants to take over the world through terrorism. However, relax, the bible says they will never succeed.Noachian wrote: This when you think about it (Britons mainly) is a relivant question to what we see in British society. In Britain, you gotta be smart. If you let the camels head into the tent, soon, the whole camel will occupy the tent. This applies not only to islam [religion], but also to other issues. Nip the problem in the bud or it becomes uncontrollable.

Oh dear!
The Queen is titular head of state. Her great purpose (and one she does supremely well) is to keep absolute power out of the hands of politicians. Just look around at what politicians with absolute power have done for us!
She is also Supreme Governor of the Church of England - a title inherited from Henry VIII, who broke away from the corruption that was the RC Church at the time (although not for such laudable reasons). It's a duty she also takes very seriously. As an Anglican minister, sworn to allegiance to her, I'm very happy with the arrangement.
The UK is actually a Parliamentary Democracy, and there is no requirement to be of any faith to be in government. There are some Bishops in the House of Lords, but they aren't in a position to have any significant effect on legislation. They do provide guidance, which is generally welcomed.
Do I think Moslems will take over the UK? No. Do I think they want to? No - or at least, not most of them. There are a few madmen who would like to seize power in the UK - and in the USA, and in most other places, and enforce Shariah law on us all. I think there are enough people not overcome with political correctness to prevent that. Bombs won't do it - Hitler made a lot more mess of London than the IRA or Al Qaeda has managed to do, and look where he ended up.

Is it true that bishops are appointed by recomendation of the Prime Minister? As an Anglican minister, sworn to allegiance to her, I'm very happy with the arrangement.
The show Yes, Prime Minister did a very enlighteneing analysis in the episode "The Bishop's Gambit".
Yet all government functions are carried out in a specifically Anglican context. Could a Prime Minister be of such a faith that would be unable to perform obeisance to the Queen? And is the monarch, as Head of State, required to be Anglican? The UK is actually a Parliamentary Democracy, and there is no requirement to be of any faith to be in government.
Religious officials, by virtue of their appointment as such, have seats in your upper house. A property you share with Iran, I believe. There are some Bishops in the House of Lords, but they aren't in a position to have any significant effect on legislation.
Anyway, I think we can agree that the idea of Islam wanting to "take over" Britain is absurd.
