I sometimes find that during a thread another member pops up and puts in their own comment.
This is always welcome because adding more viewpoints can only enrich the debate even if sometimes it may make it more difficult to follow.
The only thing is that sometimes I like to have an understanding of what their overall philosophy is. I find that, although I understand that it is quite limited, the usergroups help in this.
The point here is that a member may enter the thread with a short comment with a bias toward theism. One may therefore assume that they are a theist of some sort.
However if the member belonged to the 'Atheist' usergroup then this would provide a different view on the statement. Their statement maybe playing devil's advocate, it may be an attempt to understand the alternative viewpoint or the statement may even be ironic.
I am well aware that there is also the problem that some debaters may assume that everything someone says is worthy of ridicule purely because of the usergroups on their profile. I would like to think however that such members would show up such a blinkered view in the quality of their debate.
Does anyone else like to see which usergroup(s) a member is affiliated with?

Question for all debaters
Post #1One should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything.

Post #5Yes, for the reasons you noted.OccamsRazor wrote:Does anyone else like to see which usergroup(s) a member is affiliated with?

Post #7While I see your reasoning, there are some of us (obviously I am one of them) who don't really fit into a group. I debate not just to play devils advocate or whatever, I do it because I can't decide whether or not their is a god or whether or not the bible is the word of god. I can't claim being atheist or theist. I am somewhere in between, so I don't know that I will fit into a group for a while yet.OccamsRazor wrote:I sometimes find that during a thread another member pops up and puts in their own comment.

Such an inbetween position, I would suggest, is agnosticism. The problem here is that many in your position do not wish to give themselves such a label because they believe that agnosticism places them too far toward the atheist side.Confused wrote:While I see your reasoning, there are some of us (obviously I am one of them) who don't really fit into a group. I do not agree with such a view and, as I say, I would suggest that you are agnostic.
I think that, in your case, your username probably gives your position however

Your sharp. I would say I lean towards agnostics. But I don't think it puts me any closer to the atheist side for the theist side. I truly want to believe in everything christians say, I just can't rectify so many issues. But thanks for the help.OccamsRazor wrote:Such an inbetween position, I would suggest, is agnosticism. What about adding a usergroup called "Confused"
I'd like to see a "spiritual" usergroup. Becuase that's probably where I fit better.
