I was attracted by the emphasis on civility here, so I hope I do not bring down the neighborhood!
I consider myself a skeptic first and foremost, of the beliefs I was raised with; that life the universe and everything materialized spontaneously, without design, intent, purpose. Though I am not a practicing Christian, I see the Bible as a divinely inspired guide for humanity.
So having changed my mind completely on all this, I can only prove one thing, my opinions are totally unreliable!

Welcome! Hope to see you on the forums debating.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
