Radicalism: What to do?

Post by Rambo1125 »

We all know that radical anything is usually bad. Every religion has gone through a time period of radicalism, just as Islam is doing so lately. I propose that we put our heads together to combat militant Islam. I have a solution that I think many would agree with as the biggest answer.

Educate people. Look at Pakistan, an Islamic country. Most families cannot afford to educate their children because the country has a terrible educational system. The answer then is to send their children to Maddrassah's (forgive me if I spelled wrong.) Im not sure exactly what they teach but im pretty sure its radical Islam the Taliban recruit students from these religious schools. Instead of hunting down these Taliban, hit them at the source. We can keep the war going, but we should attack from a different angle. Help the Islamic countries build themselves, help their educational systems. If we educate the children and help their countries, it'll be a lot harder for them to view us as warmongers. As it is im pretty sure the drone attacks blowing up places doesn't help our image.

What do ya'll think? Is education the key tactic we should use?

Because it is not education that you really mean when you talk about the kids in Afghanistan or Pakistan or USA or Australia you mean reprogramming them, which is socialism (If we all think the same then we will be safe).

Your assuming thats what were talking about. Its not, I dont care to program them but to give them an actual education. Teach them about science, math, how to read, ect. And last time I checked, socialism wasnt programming people to all be the same. Socialism is an economic and political theory that comes in all shapes and sizes. Lots of European countries are socialist.

Right now, tons of children in Pakistan and Afghanistan are attending Madrassahs. Islamic seminaries basically. This would be fine but they arent receiving everything they need to know in some cases.

If we teach children science, math, how to read and write, ect. I am sure that this would curb the Taliban's recruitment.

I heard TV (cable and internet) works well...

Who wants to strap on a vest full of explosives after watching a syndicated episode of "Friends".... :D (Well that could be a bad example)

Show them how the rest of the TV world lives...
(Just gotta catch up with the Jones's right?)

Once you get terrorists thinking about Chucky Cheese's......
Check mate...

So you do mean the 3Rs. That's good.

Lot's of European countries are facing financial ruin and socialism(multiculturalism) is tearing them apart.

Aren't a lot of the suicide bombers highly educated in the 3Rs?
What part of science and maths will help them?
A lot of Islamic violence, if not most, stems from Islam confronting reality and not liking it. 'Allah akbar' is the cry of a person silencing their conscience before doing something evil. Imagine living a lie and realising it. I think the shock and denial is the cause of the violence.

I think we have to stand firm against the violence and help where we can. I am a big believer in helping a man out of a hole but we shouldn't crawl into the hole to help them. Either we both get stuck or one person gets out by standing on the other and leaving him in the hole.

Education isn't the key you think it is, there are many educated radical muslims. The solution is freedom of speech and defending it.

Certainly education will help but I think a much more important factor is the economies in these countries. Outside of the oil industries most of the economies in these countries are basket cases at the best. Not all but many arab countries have large numbers of college educated people but the problem is that once they graduate there is rarely any jobs waiting for them. To make things worse nearly all the money is concentrated in the ruling classes who routinely channel it into foreign markets for their personal enrichment and the detriment of the majority of citizens. Even when an arab nation does spend money into their own nation such as Dubai it is not for the betterment of the general citizenry but to turn it into a playground for the ultrarich. Other than oil most arab nations have virtually no natural resources so granted any large manufacturing capacity for these countries is problematic but as Japan has shown it is not insurmountable.

Give a person a job and they will have a lot more to do then listen to a bunch of hate filled people, sure you'll still have some radicals but if the majority of the population is employed they wont have time or inclination for suicide bombing.

And the US is faring so much better?

No, most of the Taliban are not educated.

Not just science and math, but there are two things that will happen.

1. They wont view us as enemies. Those children hear hate filled talk then walk out side and something explodes because of a drone missile.
2. If we teach them about economies, philosophy or whatever, they can learn about us. They can understand how every government compares. Stuff like that.

I dont think so, I think they dont understand anythign that is going on so they stick to what their radical leaders are doing. A lot probably dont understand why the US is over there and view us as intruders and invaders. (Which we could debate as to whether we are or not.)

Stand firm of course. Let me say it this way. Look at the following pictures.

Instead of blowing up every thing, use our precision and technology to kill only those we have to. Then we dont just bail, no then help rebuild their economies. Help them produce more than oil.

Freedom of speech is important but I think education is key.

I agree that this would be great in the long run but knowing the US history, we will finish what we want then pull out leaving one giant mess.

Agreed but socialism and job destruction is embedded in their way of life. Allah is a God of will and so if someone is poor or rich it is the will of Allah. I still think freedom of speech is more important than jobs or education.

Obama is a socialist so why be surprised.
1. They wont view us as enemies. Those children hear hate filled talk then walk out side and something explodes because of a drone missile.

If we did the job right and killed the taliban the children would hate us less.
I dont think so, I think they dont understand anythign that is going on so they stick to what their radical leaders are doing. A lot probably dont understand why the US is over there and view us as intruders and invaders. (Which we could debate as to whether we are or not.)
I don't want to confuse the Taliban and the Afghanistan people. Most of the Afghanistan people welcome freedom from the tyranny of the Taliban.

Let them develop their own industries. Industry represents a desire to serve others. They aren't babies.

If by help you mean encourage foreign investment then of course that would be wonderful.
Freedom of speech is important but I think education is key.
There are far too many educated radicals in all walks of life to believe education is the key. Freedom of speech at least keeps their voices quieter amongst the noise.
