Yet another new one...

Post by Abaddon »

Hello everyone,

I found this site some while back but just recently decided to register as a member. I've read a lot of debates on this site and I've come to notice I found the first place where things are discussed in a civil manner. As you all most likely know, that's rarely the case in a world as divided and wide as ours. So I'm glad I found my way here.

When it comes to me in the religious sence... I don't really know what I am. I've always been happy to believe what I believe without placing myself in a group, so I can't really say in which of them I would fall into. I am a believer, just not in the same sense than a lot of people in this site or out there. In a way I'm hoping this site will show me a direction to head to, in order to find what I am deep down inside. All I know is that my belief is strong, just a bit twisted from the common views.

Nevertheless, I'm glad to be here to meet all of you people. :) And if I at some point decide to start debating, don't mind if I sound random at times; English isn't my first language and I do struggle with it at times. :D
And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon - Rev 9:11 (KJV)

Welcome to the forum.. you certainly will find a variety of opinions here. This also will be an excellent place to practice your English.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Welcome  I'm not a native English speaker either, and this is definitely a good place to practice English. The Spell Check button helps a lot O:)

I hope you like it here.

Welcome to the discussions. You say that your belief is strong, just a bit twisted. What do you mean by that?

To make it short... I believe in majority of the things Christianity teaches, just from a more scientific point of view (e.g. God kick-started the evolution). I question everything about my religion, every single day to challenge myself to find the prove that something might be true. This way I find more depth in religion, rather than just believing it because it says so in a book...

Thank you for clarifying. There are many Christians who believe that evolution happened but that God is somehow overseeing the process. It is called theistic evolution.

Wonderful. I know from personal experience where that path might lead. It is an amazing journey of insight and awareness.

Hi.

Just curious; why "Abaddon", as opposed to something less inflammatory ...like 'Apollyon'?

Welcome Abaddon -- as a reader and/or a poster. Many members choose to remain silent. I, for one, value readers more than "opponents" (though the latter are important in presenting ideas to which to respond), and it is to them that I address my comments.

In this Forum you have found (in my opinion) the very best (if not only) religious debate site that offers a "level playing field" in which no point of view is given preference.

There is ample opportunity here to clarify one's thinking and perhaps to verbalize thoughts for consideration and comment by others.

Several of our members for whom English is not the primary language have far better command of it than many native-speakers.
