New to the forum and Christianty

Hello,

My names Michelle, I'm 26, and a single mother to two gorgeous young children. I have recently started going to a chritianity explored course, run by one of the other mums at my toddler group.

Both my grandparents are religious, but as one is Catholic and one is Church of England, it caused a lot of fighting when I was born as they couldn't reach a decision as to what to christen me under and as a result my parents said they wouldn't do it and let me make up my own mind when I grew up.

Well im more than grown up now, I believe in God and Jesus and that they love me, but I still have so many questions, which is why I thought I would join this forum in the hope of finding some answers or at least see some peoples opinions that may have never crossed my mind :)

I look forward to speaking to you, and some lively discussions :)

Welcome  I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

There was some arguing in my family about how to raise me. Happily for me, my parents won and I was raised agnostic.

Hello Sheep Lady,

Do you really have sheep? I recently visited Scotland, that rather rocky patch North of where you live (take the A1 north from London), with more sheep than people. The food was excellent, particularly the lamb.

Good for you. I'm not quite sure that I've reached that point.

Really? Why?

My observation is that we have more opinions and questions than answers. Still, it is useful, nonetheless.

no, alas, I dont have any sheep, it all dates back to a childhood holiday, but thats a boring story for another time lol. sheep are brilliant, they get on with their lives quietly and don't bother anyone :)

I believe in God and Jesus because I refuse to believe that this life is all there is, although there are beautiful wonders and blessings in this life, there is equally (shall we say really rough patches) and on the whole life IS a struggle. The friends and relatives who I've lost, I know I will see in Heaven when my time comes. I can't bear the thought that the aforementioned and my children will die and thats it, no more, it just doesnt make sense. and as a last note, pretty much every single dark time I've gone through as always led me on a path to being happy again, I know there are coincidences but it seems like somethings controlling it :)

yeah and as for the questions????? i dont think theres enough text left on the web!!!! but ill give it a good shot :P

I've never heard sheep described as brilliant before. I suppose fish and plants are brilliant too?

Do you really believe that God and Jesus are the only way to find meaning in life? You really do need to get out more.

This is known as wishful thinking. You believe in heaven because you think it would be really great if it existed and you cannot bear the thought that it does not.

What does not make sense?
God, who is perfect in every way, creates humans, in his own image. He sets up some rules, stating that if they break them, they must die, knowing full well, in advance that they will break the rules. They then break the rules, as expected. So God condemns them to eternal torment. But since he really does love them, he becomes a human so that the humans can torture him to death, thus appeasing his own anger at the humans, becoming a substitutionary sacrifice for the humans' sins. But even this is not enough for him. Only the humans who believe this odd story will be forgiven.
Yes, that makes a whole lot of sense to me. How about you?

We have good periods and bad periods, therefore there must be a God and Jesus his Son. It just stands to reason. Do you see where I might be missing the connections.

You are right. It does seem like that. However, it is merely an illusion.

I suppose fish and plants could be brilliant, but i dont think so, i think sheep are lol

By no means do I think God is the only meaning in life, my family, friends and actvities bring me great happiness and on the whole I enjoy my busy life, the good far outways the bad, but as I said it can be a struggle :)

I do know I will see my lost ones and its not wishful thinking, I KNOW it, I have my faith and through mine and others experiences I am safe in the knowledge that I will see them again

I can see that you dont really agree with my take on things, but I hope you can see that I do have my faith, and a big part of faith is not having concrete proof but truely believing :)

You and I seem to have a different sense of what the word know means. How is it that you know that you will see your loved ones again? Faith? Isn't faith just believing what you know ain't so. (Mark Twain)
