Hi ER,

Welcome to the forum.

Do you use "Noob" to mean something more than newbie (since the term can have some variation in meaning)?

Thanks :)

I meant 'newbie'. What other meaning is there for 'noob'? (so I know for the future)

From the Urban Dictionary:
II. Defining 'Noob'
Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing. Newbs are those who are new to some task* and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage. n00bs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it, and make up a unique species of their own.

I didn't think you meant that, but strange things happen at times on Internet forums.

I love how on this forum even words like noob have official definitions and must be used in the strictest sense.

Gotta love it.

The definition supplied is from www.urbandictionary.com as indicated -- not from the forum.

In human communication words have definitions. Some are aware of definitions of words and others are not. Communication is enhanced when definitions are specified. Is that a problem?

Should words NOT be defined -- or should words be used to mean whatever the speaker / writer might choose at the moment? Should "down" be used to mean "away from the center of the Earth" if the writer so chooses?
