Make all the claims you want

Many Theists seem to confuse the debate environment with the church environment.

In church sermons it is perfectly acceptable to claim whatever one wishes about “gods without expecting to be challenged by opposing views (though doctrine issues may arise concerning specific issues) and without any requirement for proof beyond “scripture and “interpretation.

However, in public debate, when one makes a claim they are honor-bound to substantiate that claim. In the Christianity and Apologetics sub-forum, it is clearly specified that the bible is not to be considered any more authoritative than any other book. Therefore, the bible cannot legitimately used to “prove bible stories or claims. Other sub-forums have different Guidelines (including some in which the bible IS considered truthful and authoritative).

Those who are unable or unwilling to cite credible support for their statements (aside from citing stories from the same bible) are often uncomfortable attempting to defend Christian stories, literature and claims – particularly “miracles – because extra-biblical evidence has NOT been presented to verify that such magical things happen(ed) in the real world.

Some Theists seem unable to accept or comprehend that the convictions of others who do not worship "gods" (or a particular or culturally favored god) are every bit as valid as their own and that Non-Believers have as much right to be respected for their position as do religionists -- and as much right to state their opinions.

No matter how fervently one believes something, they are NOT entitled claim that what they believe is TRUE for anyone other then them self. Stating “I believe gods actually exist is a VERY different statement from “Gods exist. The former is a statement of personal belief and opinion. The latter is a claim of fact and truth. Personal beliefs are not subject to demand for proof. Claims of fact ARE subject to demand for proof.

Credibility and honor in debate require that claims be substantiated if challenged.

Non-Theist

ANY of the thousands of "gods" proposed, imagined, worshiped, loved, feared, and/or fought over by humans MAY exist -- awaiting verifiable evidence
