Has anyone here seen the film "Ostrov" ?
As far as I know, you can only watch it in the original with subtitles.
It´s the kind of film I love- slow, beautiful landscapes, few but impressive characters, a simple story with deep wisdom.

I haven't seen or heard of this film. What is it about (the general plot) and what about the movie are you asking us to debate?

The Film was shown first on the Vienna film Festival in 2006 and won several prices. It´s the story of a fictive character - a russian monk in the 20th century.
One question I want to talk about is the aesthetic aspect. It´s a type of film that is rather different from the actual mainstream, no quick cameramoves and sudden cuts, no loud emotional music, no hunting for effects. Is it in your eyes meditativ, pleasant or boring. The same regarding the sparse use of colours and the slow cameramoves over a rough wide permafrost landscape, changes of seasons only hinted by small things like the little plants or the birds.
