Hi everyone.

I was Googling around for a forum and when I saw that the subtitle of this one was "Respectful Religious Debate" I was very hopeful that I had finally found the right place.

I'm an atheist, but I believe that religions have their place in this world and I try to be as respectful as possible. On several atheist/agnostic forums I've visited people seem to be too harsh against religions and prefer abuse to civil conversation.

Many (probably most) of the atheists I've met in person or online have been hateful and bitter towards others, further reinforcing the stereotype that atheists cannot be good people - and now I'm starting to wonder if it isn't true! I've had more civil debate with Christians than I have with my fellow atheists over the years, and have received more true friendship throughout my life from those with faith than those without.

I'm looking forward to reading through some of these posts and to finding more like-minded people.

People will certainly have their beliefs challenged here at this site, but you should find that personal attacks are not tolerated and that the moderations are fair.

Welcome.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
