Abortion is not illegal. God oversees gov't.
Post #1Romans 13 say's we are supposed to obey our government. Since abortion is not illegal, why do Christians have a problem with it?
Re: Abortion is not illegal. God oversees gov't.
Post #21It is the People who choose "our government". The Government is RULED by the People who voted for them into office. We can just as easily get them OUT of office if they do not SERVE THE PEOPLE who elected them. BTW, Election Day is 25 days away. Who will you voted for Governor?
Anyway, it just so happens that most people are still in favor of Roe Vs. Wade more than 41 years later. When enough religious people stand up and fight to end abortion (or legalized murder), then abortion will become illegal again. It is that simple. No one should stand for legalized murder of the fetus! Since when has any woman been given the authority to decide that the fetus (a life originated by GOD) in their womb should die to no fault of the fetus who was placed in the womb from irresponsible sex? If she did not want a child to bear, than don't have sex! It is that simple. If she does bear a child and does not want it, than give it up to adoption. There are other young couples out there who would love to raise her child.
That reminds me of "Wednesday's Child", an organization for children waiting for a home where a mother and a father can love and support them throughout their life. I find "Wednesday's Child" to be an ethical organization as opposed to "Planned Parenthood" who doesn't care much about a fetus in the womb. They only cater to women who want abortions while keeping the "benefits of sex" in play with their boyfriend. You can't have your cake and "kill" it because it was unplanned.

Post #22I would oppose any Christian having an abortion because it will bring down a curse for the shedding of innocent blood, an abomination to Yah but Yeshua declares that one of the curses on a Jezebel is the death of her children.corky wrote: Romans 13 say's we are supposed to obey our government. By all means allow the Jezebels to curse their own lives. Who are we to prevent the consequences falling on the wicked? Abortion is a curse upon those women that live an immoral life ordained by Yeshua.
Many Christians oppose abortion because it will bring down a curse upon the nation as a whole for allowing the practice. They don't want to live in a nation under Yah's punishment.
Re: Abortion is not illegal. God oversees gov't.
Post #23You are forgetting one thing. When a government goes against Yah's law, we are to obey His law. The scriptural example is Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They refused to bow down to the golden image.Heretic Gal wrote:Your OP asked why Christians have a problem with abortion, since it's not illegal and the Bible says we are supposed to obey our government. How is it possible to respond to that without being "political"?corky wrote: [Replying to post 6 by Heretic Gal]
I agree not all government is equal. It is bait and switch because you went from talking about the topic "Abortion" into Political issues. If you want to talk politics there is a forum for that.
We do not have the right to force others to follow Yah's law but we must follow it or face the consequences.

actually Satan is the ruler of this world so that would make the government minions of Satan.
Religion aside, abortion is a topic that people of same faith can disagree with. Not like there is a direct quote in the bible that goes THOU SHALL NOT HAVE ABORTION. hence there are not one christian denomination but thousands over time with different views on different things. Therefore you can't really say christian in general since Christians can't even make an agreement amongst themselves.

Post #25[Replying to post 1 by corky] Indeed. Why should Christians have a problem with abortion when the bible commands that all pregnancies from adultery must be aborted (Numbers 5:20-28 Matt 5:17-19). Presumably this biblical commandment was to protect property rights and to ensure that all lines of inheritance are legitimate.

Post #26mitty wrote: [Replying to post 1 by corky] The bible commands that all pregnancies from adultery must be aborted (Numbers 5:20-28 )
QUESTION: Does the bible command that all pregnancies from adultery be aborted (Numbers 5:20-28)?
ANSWER: No. Numbers 5 reads as following:
Firstly it should be noted that the said "swelling" and "falling away" is not presented as a result of any sexual encounter but as a RESULT of the drinking of the prepared "holy water". So the above procedure is not that of a woman already showing signs of pregnancy."When he [The Priest] makes her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and committed an act of unfaithfulness toward her husband, the water that brings a curse will then enter into her and become something bitter, and her abdomen will swell, and her thigh will fall away, and the woman will become an object of cursing among her people" - Num 5: 27
QUESTION: What then is the meaning of the "falling away" of her "thigh"?
In the bible the "thigh" is often used as a euphemism for the reproductive organs. For example, refering to Jacobs children Genesis 46:26 speaks of those "which came out of his loins" (ERV) literally his "thigh" ("issue out of the upper thigh" AKJV - compare Ex 1:5; Jg 8:30). So evidently, this "curse" refers NOT to the abortion of an unborn child conceived in adultery but to the "waste away" (CB), “shrink (Da) or “shrivel (Mo) of an adulteresses reproductive organs perhaps suggesting loss of fertility.
That the adulteress is not being cursed with an forced abortion is evident by how the effects are contrasted for an innocent woman falsely accursed, we read "However, if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, she will then be free from such punishment, and she will be able to conceive and produce offspring." (Num 5:28)

Post #28The commandment in Numbers 5:20-30 clearly describes how all pregnancies from adultery must be aborted by the use of abortifacients ("bitter water") such as pomegranate seeds or siliphium. If you believe otherwise then what is the fate of a pregnancy after a woman drinks "bitter water" made from mifepristone or misoprostal or siliphium? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortifacient And why wouldn't a male adulterer also be required to drink "bitter water" and say "so be it, so be it" and not just adulteresses if your hypothesis has any validity.JehovahsWitness wrote:mitty wrote: [Replying to post 1 by corky] The bible commands that all pregnancies from adultery must be aborted (Numbers 5:20-28 )

Re: Abortion is not illegal. God oversees gov't.
Post #29Well, no ... it does not, it doesn't even mention the word "pregnancy" or "with child" or give any indication at all that the woman is pregnant prior to the event. If it were "clear" such explicit expressions would be there. In the absence of this on can at most propose an possible interpretation.mitty wrote:The commandment in Numbers 5:20-30 clearly describes how all pregnancies from adultery must be aborted
Where does the bible narrative mention pomegranate seeds or siliphium ? Chapter and verse please.mitty wrote:The commandment in Numbers 5:20-30 clearly describes how all pregnancies from adultery must be aborted by the use of abortifacients ("bitter water") such as pomegranate seeds or siliphium.

Post #30If you are really interested in making a "bitter water" abortifacient I suggest you ask the authors of that commandment how to make it, or ask your local rabbi since the meaning and purpose of that commandment is obvious.JehovahsWitness wrote:Well, not it does not, it doesn't even mention the word "pregnancy" or "with child" or give any indication at all that the woman is pregnant prior to the event.
