Everything is offensive

Post by Princess Luna On The Moon »

It seems to be the norm nowadays to be offended about something. I can hardly post or say anything now without worrying about offending someone. Should things just be said openly anyway and disregard those who are offended? Or should things be made to prevent any potentially offensive materials or behaviors? Thoughts?

Fair enough. I can accept people being offended if there's a good, rational reason to be (even if I disagree). What really bothers me is when there's a group solely dedicated to preventing and banning things they find offensive or immoral.
When it comes to preventing and banning things one is moving from logic to politics. They are two different things. Many things that appear logical on a personal basis make for bad public policy, and many things that make for good public policy are not logical from a personal prospective.

I somewhat agree. There seems to be a lot to become offended over these days. But, I'm of the belief that if you use tact, MOST of the time, you won't offend. There was a recent story that went sort of viral, I should post the link...that talked about a newscaster who blatantly went way out of his boundaries as a reporter, and basically said a horribly racist comment on air. He was suspended. I think he should have been fired, as the comment was pretty bad. Plus, it's totally not his job to give his racist opinion on air, he should just be giving the public the facts of the newsstory.

So, there are instances when people really shouldn't speak their minds, because while we have free speech, that doesn't mean you have a license to say anything and everything that pops into your mind...any time. lol

Just my pov. O:)

You could create world pease, cure all diseases and make everyone wealthy and someone somewhere will still complain.
It seems to be human nature.
That said, we are each responsible for our own actions and emotions and how we act based on external stimuli. Meaning, I can't make you mad, I can only say/do things that create the stimuli that allow you to be mad. You have the final decision to be mad, sad, happy, etc.
We should be allowed to say anything we want and let the 'offended ones' deal with their own issues.
If we did this, I believe people would have a lot more time on their hands to be able to do more positive things.

A person should feel free to say whatever they want and ignore the possibility of offending others. It's more the intent in what's said than what's said. After all, you can't always know what silly thing someone else will be offended by right?

Don't worry about what others think of your posts. Just express yourself! I won't be coming in here after today because I'm not concern about what others think about me. Too many atheists like to try to poke holes in our belief systems and it won't work because our faith and belief are too strong to be harmed about what others think. Action speaks louder than words and when you live based on the actions you take to express your belief in Jesus, then no one can question us by how we live and how we die. It doesn't matter.

This isn't Tumblr; so as long as you remain civil, feel free to speak your mind here.
Having dated a Tumblr-holic for many years, this really made me laugh. I know exactly what you mean.

I've been watching some tumblr outbursts unfold from the peanut gallery, and haven't really gotten involved in the particular brand of crazy that is no doubt exaggerated due to my... viewing platform. Are certain tumblr-holics really capable of the extremist stances I've learned? Assuming, of course, your previous companion was at a higher than average level of... tumblr dedication.
