Christianity cherry-picked from the 613 Mosaic laws
It most certainly did!
Would anybody like to challenge that ?

Re: Christianity cherry-picked from the 613 Mosaic laws
Post #161It's the code of Hammurabi. Technicalities aside, I went through it, in part, years ago. Many argue the author(s) of the Torah plagiarized this "code". And yes, when the OT brings up 'witches' alone, as fact, it loses all credibility. Sorry. It is no longer "the most brilliant piece of legislation".
The laws, in which I live under, do no offer provisions for how to handle 'witches'. Sorry. Hence, mine are better, for that fact alone.oldbadger wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 5:05 am That law is filed under social responsibility, and we don't know what the exact definition of sorcerer/witch was. But 'Hey' you found a law to show...out of pages of laws covering service/employment, personal injury, property protection, social responsibility, justice and mercy, the Sabbath and more.
I'll bet you moan about masses of laws in your own country so OT law isn't doing so badly.
The OT provides specifics about how the slave master can keep new offspring as property. This would effectively mean if war prisoner(s) have a child in captivity, the captor rightfully owns their offspring as lifetime property as well.
In case anyone is wondering... The avatar quote states the following:
"I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness."

But I don't know what the Aramaic word for sorcerer/witch actually referred to. I don't know what a sorcerer had to do to be judged as such.
Again......we can't be sure what witches actually were. The laws, in which I live under, do no offer provisions for how to handle 'witches'. Sorry. Hence, mine are better, for that fact alone.
Where you live your laws are a constant source of argument. I look forward to any future comments of yours about your laws.
You still don't get it. The Mosaic laws were a brilliant piece of legislation for a nation to succeed. Thousands of years ago.The OT provides specifics about how the slave master can keep new offspring as property. But you feel the need to trash them because of one law that today could not be accepted. Which is quite weak, really, because I can think of several that are inappropriate, inhumane or unreasonable for today......but back then they worked.

Post #163There are no inhumane laws in the Mosaic law code; there are just inaccurate understandings of said laws on the part of the modern reader.

Post #164I'm pretty sure there exists no further dispute about topics like 'witches', beating your children, chattel slavery, punishing women for not screaming loud enough during rape, telling the rapist to marry the women they raped, etc........... But other than all of this, yes, brilliant!
Sure, "they worked" for the chattel slave owneroldbadger wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:09 am You still don't get it. The Mosaic laws were a brilliant piece of legislation for a nation to succeed. Thousands of years ago.

Post #165Even if that were true (it sounds like the usual dismissal of anything the believer doesn't like) it would make the OT laws no more than the best the humans of the time could do and is not in fact as good as we can devise today. Specifically on the matter of slavery.JehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:34 amThere are no inhumane laws in the Mosaic law code; there are just inaccurate understandings of said laws on the part of the modern reader.

Post #167Well if the JWs ever have such a huge majority in our countries then they can introduce them back, but I think that most secular governments would strip out quite a lot as in appropriate and several as inhumane.JehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:34 am

Those laws were perfect for situations in their day, thousands of years ago. The authors of those laws were quite brilliant.

Re: Christianity cherry-picked from the 613 Mosaic laws
Post #168I don't know what the word used in Exodus was and what it's other meanings are, so I don't know what was meant by sorcerer/witch.
1.5 thousand years later there was Jesus, and although many scholars refer to his trade as 'tecton' the local language used 'nagar' which represents the hissing of a snake as in the incantations of some magicians. Hand workers had that title because what they could do with wood, bone, stone or metals was 'magical'. Given his record of amazing actions I wonder what people thought of him?
I don't think we know what a person had to do to be condemned as a sorcerer......maybe they sacrificed people, or babies?!!! But I don't know.

Post #169There is no time in which inhumanity is appropriate, much less "perfect" ...so you were wrong to label any of them inhumane.

Post #170In a JW world (where a majority of citizens are JWs) the Mosaic laws could be introduced, in which case there would be lots of inhumane laws at that time.JehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 3:26 pm
