Debating Runners!

Post by FinalEnigma »

An idea struck me while out running today, I'm trying to get in shape and get some exercise, and I'm sure there's others on here who are as well, so why not do it together and be accountable to one another? we all know that if you just do it on your own, with nobody to keep you honorable you're gonna cheat.

Now You don't have to run if running isn't your thing, you can walk, swim, bike, skip, fly or marathon somersault down the street if you like, the important thing is to get some exercise and keep up with it. You don't actually have to debate while running either, although that is worth bonus points.

I'm making a usergroup for this, and I know it's a bit silly and has nothing to do with the forum, but this is for everyone who's trying to get in shape, lose weight, or bring down their mile time.

I know I'm a few days late, but here's my new years resolution: To outrun everyone on DC&R! Now who's gonna stop me?
That's gonna be a tough one I know, as I'm not much of a runner at the moment, and I know at least Confused can outrun me, and I doubt shes gonna give ground without a fight.
And I know some of you have resolutions to get in shape. according to a poll on the news a few days ago that's the most common resolution, so who's up for doing it together? maybe a little competition and fun while we are at it?

So if you are interested, just post here with your current status(running time and distance, biking, swimming, walking, weight you're trying to lose[don't have to tell us your weight, just how much your trying to lose!]) and keep us updated every week or two weeks and post your latest accomplishment. Feel free to join the usergroup Debating Runners as well.(which I'm making right after this post)
I'll put up my mile time tomorrow once I get it timed.

Well, I haven't had a drink or a cigarette in two days now. I got home from work and was all excited because today was going to be my first day of outdoor cycling. Half way through the ride, I got bit on the leg by a damn dog. It is much safer and more fun to sit on the couch and drink and smoke. But I'm not giving up yet. I'm just not going to be biking through neighborhoods anymore. And I'm thinking about bringing a small bat next time.

well, that's random.

there re couple not too friendly dogs int he neighborhood. If I get worried about them because they are being aggressive I get off my bike on the opposite side from the dog and walk my bike till they leave me alone. From there, I can kick the dog if it tries to bite me. And it would not enjoy that in my boots, because they are steel-toed.

Yes, I'm somewhat paranoid.

how bad of a bite was it?

Not terrible. He took a dime size chunk of skin and it's now purple and swollen, but no longer bleeding. It ticks me off because I haven't been on a bike out in a neighborhood in 25 years, and the first day I go out I get bit by a dog.

That's some luck. Don't go skydiving.

Have you reported the dog? it could be dangerous to children even if not likely to seriously injure an adult(not sure if its a big enough dog to be dangerous or not, but no dog should go about biting people).

Yeah, EMS took a look at the wound and Animal Control quarantined the dog to watch it for rabies.

I biked 20 minutes (3.5 miles) today! And I didn't get attacked by any dogs either! lol I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but it's 100 degrees in the shade here and I've been sitting in front of a computer for 15 years now lol. And this is just the start. I've signed up with menshealth.com's personal trainer program and am now biking 5 days a week and weight training 4 days a week. No place to go but up! :)

Do you think we should start a subforum for this usergroup? I will be happy to donate tokens for the cause. Just a thought. :-k

It wouldn't be a bad idea. and make this thread a sticky at the top of it. THough I don't recall offhand if Otseng has a method for creating subforums with tokens, and honestly, I'm not sure he should(unless maybe it takes many, many tokens).

Good job on the bike. on thought though - make sure you don't overdo it by jumping into biking and weight training so much so fast.

You created the Debate Runners usergroup and for 2,000 more tokens you can have a subforum as well. You request the new subforum on the same threat you requested the usergroup.

I'm definitely taking it easy and being careful. My online personal trainer program had me down for 30 minutes of biking, and I probably could have done it, but 20 minutes seemed to be a good stopping point. I figure I'll build on the 20 minutes and comfortably work my way up to 30. And the weight training program I am in is awesome. It starts off slow and builds in small increments each week. And if you can't handle the reps or the weight, it automatically adjusts to your needs.

I see you're on top of things.

But what should we call it?

Health?

Health and exercise?

something else?
