Radon is a the second leading cause of lung cancer in America and claims about 20,000 lives annually (source: US EPA ). If we crudely multiple that by 20 times (ratio of US population to global) then we could be looking at 400,000 premature deaths per annum globally.
Radon is a colorless, naturally occurring, radioactive noble gas that is formed from the decay of radium. It is one of the heaviest substances that are gases under normal conditions and is considered to be a health hazard (source: Wikipedia ).
Given that there few known compounds of this unreactive element it seems to have little purpose in this universe other than accumulating in buildings and causing premature deaths in humans.
Alternatively there is no inherent design and radon is a side-effect of a decay process that couldn't care less about humanity.
What was God thinking ? Why is radon not mentioned in the Bible (AFAIK) and why doesn't it warn people of this compound ?
Why did God create Radon ?

Post #11Are you serious? Look, from my Atheist view this all sounds ridiculous offcourse. I mean something that doesn't exist can't create anything.byofrcs wrote: What was God thinking ? Why is radon not mentioned in the Bible (AFAIK) and why doesn't it warn people of this compound ?
Though even from my early Christian point of view if would have find this question odd.
As a Christian I never believed that God actually created deseases or other harmfull things. I believed that He had casused the big bang and that the rest came by itself through evolution etc.
Though as an orthodox or fundamental or litteral Christian (what ever you are), I think that you should believe Satan created all the harmfull shit on earth like Radon...
Re: Why did God create Radon ?
Post #12Well that shows how mis-informed some Christians are. Evolution says nothing about stellar formation nor how elements decay. The debate, if you paid attention, was to create an inconsistency with YEC ideas on the age of the Universe/Earth and Uranium-uranium dating techniques.Antagonist wrote:Are you serious? Either Uranium-uranium dating is wrong and God created Radon or it is right and God is incompetent. Alternatively there is no God. You say no-God but I'm not arguing with you.
Please don't presume what I am. From my atheist view it is a relevant question. To say that "Satan" created Radon then, Satan also created the whole of the Uranium series and worked out how to get just the right decay products to end up with Radon. Way to go Satan !. That's crap.Antagonist wrote: Though as an orthodox or fundamental or litteral Christian (what ever you are), I think that you should believe Satan created all the harmfull xxxx on earth like Radon...
For the record I've been atheist all my life as far as I know. Like many Christians I don't believe in many Gods, but unlike Christians I also don't believe in their pet God.
When I'm in-universe e.g. discussing Star Trek or Christianity, then I assume the fictional canon is true in that universe. Above, I'm applying real-world examples into the fictional world. If it sounds wrong then the problem is with the assumptions of the fictional universe not with what I say.

Post #13woops. I'm sorry I should have paid more attention then. I thought you where a Christian so the question sounded pretty odd to me. but If you're talking hypothetically I understand.byofrcs wrote:Well that shows how mis-informed some Christians are. Post #14So God, the guy who values children more than adults, created Radon to punish little babies and toddlers too. What a just merciful God you serve there redneck.redneck22 wrote:The warnings are clear in the Bible that sin will be judged. The above problem with Radon assumes that the buildings are built on the originally created ground. Biblical history states that the judgement by Noah's flood was global and catastrophic, rearranging the original, and I assume, good protective layer. It also states the second judgement will be global and catastrophic like the first.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
