I have found the following quote by Sam Harris to be quite true, unfortunately:
"In our next presidential election, an actor who reads his bible would almost certainly defeat a rocket scientist who does not".
Question for debate:
1) Does the religious orientation of a presidential candidate really hold enough influence to determine the outcome of an election (I am asking if this happens, not if it should happen)
2) Do you consider the religious orientation of a presidential candidate when deciding who you will elect?
3) Do you think the religious orientation of a president is important? Why? Why not?

The Christian word for jihad is crusade...Bush has said on a number of occasions that
he was starting a crusade. Other than statements that he is Christian, I have not
seen anything he has done that backs up his statements.
I think he has used religion as a wedge issue, but he has not attempted to better the
country. Every program he has proposed based on some narrow "religious" viewpoint
has turned out to be a machine that funds fringe groups. He lacks humility,
compassion, and he cares nothing for the poor.
While this is not entirely on topic, I think it bisects the topic in that the perception of
someones belief (religion) influences voting, however many of the "religious"
convictions people have are not directly attributable to their beliefs.
