Mine is obvious (I hope) to anyone interested in ANE mythology. Among the Canaanites, Lotan, called "The Fleeing Serpent" or "The Coiling Serpent" represented the primordial chaos. Defeated by Baal, his (or her) body was divided to create the heavens and the earth. In the bible Lotan appears as Leviathan. See Psalm 74:14, 89:10,Isaiah 27:1 etc. Another parallel of this myth is the battle between Tiamat and Marduk from the Babylonian Enuma Elish.
The significance of this symbol, for me, is that the bible should be understood in its historical and archaeological context.

And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto His people. Exodus 32:14

My avatar is a silhouette of my favourite character from the classic Super Famicom game Chrono Trigger, Magus - also known as Janus and Guile. He's a very grey character, neither particularly good nor particularly evil - that I think also makes him the most understandable. Also there are references in Chrono Trigger to the magi of the Gospel of St. Matthew: Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar (who in the game are Magus' mentors, the Gurus of Time, Life and Reason).
My screen name is also influenced noticeably by the character of Magus.

My avatar is from a FPS game titled "Deus Ex", the only first person shooter with a decent single player story line as well as actually requiring thinking, analysis, and to some degree, moral judgement, as opposed to just twitch reflexes. It's a great game, with some twisted political philosophy becoming quite apparent if you play enough of the side-quests.
The avatar is that of a quasi-sentient surveilance AI named Daedalus who frees the protagonist from a cell in a mysterious complex and then provides valuable information for a good part of the game. Eventually, it merges with another AI and at the endgame offers the protagonist the ability to become something of a Demigod, presumably to manage the world as something of a benevolent philosopher-king like entity.

Gilt and Vetinari shared a look. It said: While I loathe you and all of your personal philosophy to a depth unplummable by any line, I will credit you at least with not being Crispin Horsefry [The big loud idiot in the room].
