The US "Bible Belt" (most of the southern and south-central states, particularly in rural areas) is heavily religious but more prominently Protestant than Catholic

Yes, I experience discrimination right here, right now (though I do not seek acceptance). For example, my wife and I do a lot of valuable volunteer work in the warehouse of a food bank (things that others cannot or will not do -- heavy physical work).
The food bank is VERY Christian in orientation. In spite of our contributions, which have been consistent for years, we are decidedly NOT accepted as "insiders" -- because we are "not Christian enough". We are treated well and cordially, and we have many friends there, but we are definitely "outsiders" because we will not engage in "god talk" or participate in worship rituals. It is often suggested (or was in the past) that we "join in", but we courteously decline.
