Shinto Is Never Religion

People pray for snobbish profits, particularly for rich marriage, earlier promotion, success in the university entrance examination.
We feel no ethics in this cult.

Post #4So they pray to a giant torpedo and others pray to a giant invisible sky man, are you saying they are more legit because they can see what they are praying to? Or are you suggesting that praying to a torpedo is somehow worse then praying to a giant sky man?cat wrote: For example, the Kaiten (manned torpedoes) are displayed in the war museum in the Yasukuni Shrine, which is the center of the Shinto religion in Japan.

I am no expert in Shinto as a religion, I have only a brief knowledge of it as it was recorded in the 8th century, it writings are a conundrum of customs and practices of the indigenous people of Japan.
It is for me though, one of the east's pagan religions, so its about spirituality and duty to one's family at its heart.
The manned torpedo represents the sacrifice of family members who did their duty for family, community and country. a sacrifice in modern times such as ours where the noble act of duty to the family is above the individual gratification found today.
I believe the Japanese government utilised the honour code to exploit that sense of duty of its young men, but that does not take away from the the men who carried out that duty. So there stands a monument of it in Japan for all to see and remember their ancestors.
Going back to the opening post it would help if you could expand more on what you are looking for in this thread, if its just about ethics and you say they have none, what you mean is they have none you understand. Not understanding something is often down to the individual, this really is dependent on many factors.

I once read a book that my father had that was written by a kamikaze pilot whose turn did not come before the end of the war. (Dad teaches history and has loads of strange and interesting books.) The author described the training and general school conditions as so brutal and inhuman that the 'volunteers' (who were actually ordered to volunteer) were entirely willing to go and kill themselves rather than endure any more. The author was in fact on the verge of suicide (tongue between teeth, chin on windowsill) when he heard shouting that the Emperor had ordered the surrender.Gunnarr wrote:I am no expert in Shinto as a religion, I have only a brief knowledge of it as it was recorded in the 8th century, it writings are a conundrum of customs and practices of the indigenous people of Japan.

Dogmatism and skepticism are both, in a sense, absolute philosophies; one is certain of knowing, the other of not knowing. What philosophy should dissipate is certainty, whether of knowledge or ignorance.

Post #9Islam is a religion, just like christianity, that is based on a personal relationship with Muhammad as your savior the son of Allah. They are pretty much the same religion in a lot of aspects. What carnal nature do we all have? What makes you so sure they are not accepting it and you denying it? Faith bleeds humans of their humanity by giving them an excuse to commit atrocities and not taking responsibility for their actions.Burninglight wrote:Bibilcal Christianity & Islam are not like that and Christianity differs from islam in that it is not a religion it is a relationship with Jesus Christ as your savior the son of God. Post #10first of all, Islam is not based on a relationship with Muhammad; he is dead. Jesus is not dead. Secondly, Muhammad is not Allah's son nor do Muslims see it that way. Finally, faith can bleed humanity and lead people to commit atrocities, but that depends on the faith or religion. I take it you are an atheist. Well there are about 2.2 billion Muslims and 2.9 billion Chrisitians. IOW, there are well over 5 billion theists in the world Maybe one out of every 5 thousand say there is no God.Polyatheist wrote:Islam is a religion, just like christianity, that is based on a personal relationship with Muhammad as your savior the son of Allah. The Bible says the heavens declare God's glory. Personally, I believe Atheist know there is a God; what they are really saying is no to God!
