Evolution is the change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms through successive generations.
Evolution is the product of two opposing forces: processes that constantly introduce variation in traits, and processes that make particular variants become more common or rare (selection).

Evolution has two definitions and distinction between the two is often blurred. Biological evolution is simply the gradual change in inherited traits found within populations of organisms. The Theory of Evolution, is the scientific explanation of how biological evolution could occur.
