2012...an Armaggedon Flick?

The popular flick 2012 has religious overtones of Armageddon. But it illustrates a basic difficulty Christians will have convincing everyone else that a global natural catastrophe is really the hand of God. Of course there are always the dimwits who think every passing thunderstorm is Armageddon. Superstitious people believe the same about lava flows and tsunamis. So how will anyone know a global event as in 2012 is from a wrathful Deity? People die indiscriminately (except the fortunate, as in film). "The End is Near" has been ballyhooed for millenia. Thus the black plague was thought to be IT. So, unless we see guys in white togas riding flying horses and waving swords (or Zeus hurling thunderbolts) it will be an event that science has warned us about as much as religion.

The 2012 thing began with the Mayan calender (as far as I'm aware). It comes to an end on the 21st December 2012 - and apparently signifies the end of an age/cycle. The Mayans were said to be far ahead of their time in terms of understanding lunar cycles and such - hence why their calender is being treated seriously. However, as always treat such talk with scepticism.

There's also the factor that science leads us to conclusions of 2012. Solar flares are said to be increasing and will peak at 2012. A study carried out by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences found that the sun's cycles can/will become worse:
Mr Baker, Chairman of the study, in statement released with the report wrote: "Whether it is terrestrial catastrophes or extreme space weather
incidents, the results can be devastating to modern societies that depend in a myriad
of ways on advanced technological systems."
There's even talk of "Planet X" colliding with earth in 2012 but I'd say that it's media hype.

However, no matter what you read, always treat such talk with scepticism.

In any case, if there was something that was going to signal the end of the world in 2012, the governments would tell us, right? RIGHT?
When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth

No worries. The earth has ended about 50 times over the last few decades. At 2012 they'll just have to come up with another new thing, or push the date back magically as always. I still remember hearing on the radio that Gamma-rays were going to kill us all in 2002 or something I believe it was. Or what about the 6th of June 2006 (06/06/06)? Didn't end up so bad either did it? ;)
Isn’t this enough? Just this world?
Just this beautiful, complex, wonderfully unfathomable natural world?
How does it so fail to hold our attention
That we have to diminish it with the invention
Of cheap, man-made Myths and Monsters?

But the world DID end on 06/06/06. You mean you missed it?

Must have. I am a really sound sleeper. Maybe I'll notice next time.

But there were definite churchy undertones in "the happening" and Paranormal. It is a kind of trademark of Fundamentalists to have a fear of the Ouija Board.

I'ed hate to think the armageddon is cause to describe a movie.
To use an armageddon to describe a movie might be inefficient.

Maybe a "b" movie, not an armageddon

Or some would say it rhymes with row locks.

Nah! You can only be sceptical about a serious proposition.
