Hello all, I am new here! O:)

It looks like no one has dropped in here for a few hours, I am very eager to debate, but I'm new here so don't wanna step on anyone's toes or anything.

I guess I'll lurk for a little bit until I can find someplace to nose in. I don't wanna start a new thread right away and can't PM anyone for a challenge for a while either.

My position: Ex-Catholic Christian, have been an atheist for almost half my life now.

Once a hard anti-theist but now only moderately so. I've been inspired by the hard atheists like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Sam Harris - but while I agree with some of what they say I disagree with other stuff.

Big fan of the Atheist Experience public access TV/radio show of Austin Texas, as well as their non-prophets show.

Why debate religion? Well just ask the people who when polled admitted they would never vote for an atheist president. It's pretty obvious that there's a clear bias against atheists that's deeply rooted in misunderstanding. The best way to clear that up is not to debate the religious, but often they are more concerned with preaching to us how they are right and we are wrong than bothering to hear what we have to say. This forum is, I dare say, a Godsend (the pun was intentional). Soooo, a means to an end is progress of a kind I suppose. ;)

edit: built in spellcheck? awesome!!!

Welcome to DC&R.

Love the avatar, is that your cat? (as opposed to someone else's cat, rather than as opposed to your hamster or some such)

Feel free to jump in whenever, there is actually some debate going on at the moment, though not in this subforum. there's an awesome function to search for posts since last visit at the top right - it will show which threads are active in chronological order, and when you refresh, it shows any new activity, so it's an awesome way to keep track of what's going on.
The subforum with the most activity is the Christianity and apologetics one, second behind that is probably the science and religion subforum.

Hey buddy!

Nah, not my cat, I wish

I just like the kittehs, they are good at breaking down barriers and the Christmas cat is there to set the mood for the holiday.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I can't wait to begin, I think I'll scoot over to the apologetics place ;)

I'm definitely with you there.
Indeed, that has to be the only way to deserve eternal torment - hating cute little animals. :D
- be eternally climbed on by bunnies and puppies.

- feel free to ignore me at the moment, I get into really strange good moods on occasion.

Welcome to the forum!

(I split your post from the original thread to give your intro more visibility.)

Howdy!

It's a great place for debate/discussion. We've got some great, intelligent people from all over the religion map here. I find I really enjoy it.

Since you like the kittehs, you might find this enjoyable (Just please, please don't quote it for debate purposes  )

Someone had way too much time on their hand :o
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?
