I can see your quandary. You can do a simple Google or Wikipedia search to get answers to your question, but you first must learn to spell. It is atheism. It comes from Greek. A - meaning not; and theism - meaning belief in a god or gods.

Atheism is not a statement of belief but a statement of unbelief. Because the belief in gods is so prevalent, we have a word for disbelief in gods. If you did not believe in gnomes, then perhaps we could call you an agnomist, but we don't have such a word. I don't belief in any gods, so we call me an atheist.

That's all. There isn't anything more to it.

It is not what atheism believes in, because there are huge amounts of variation between people. The only thing that atheists will have in common is the lack of belief that any god/gods exist. Some go into the active belief there is no god. Other than that, you will find many variations.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

What do they [atheists] believe in?

Can only speak for this atheist:

F= ma
E = MC^2
Second law of thermo dynamics.
Murphy’s Law.
People tell lies.
Good well meaning people repeat lies…..and tell lies.
Very clever people get things wrong.
The scientific method includes robust use of the falsification principle.
Personal testament is evidence of personal opinion.
Evolution theory is not an atheistic conspiracy.
No one has ever walked on water.
Planet Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old and not the center of the universe.
The Gospels ae not gospel.
I like lists.
There is no verifiable evidence for the existence of any god.
There are no gods.

I don't "believe" in anything. If by belief you mean something without the data to back it up.

If you want to know what I think of the universe:

-We're just a Pale Blue Dot in a season of nothingness
-I am nihilistic so I will say that nothing has any intrinsic value (nihilism is a philosophical viewpoint)
-When we die, the cells and atoms that compose our body dissipate whence they came...therefore no afterlife
-Everything we are is the sum of chemical and electrical interactions in our brain/body

But the biggest issue apparent for me with theists trying to understand the atheist/agnostic viewpoint is that I freely admit we don't know a lot of stuff about the world we live in...and I think that's great :D

Just look at the world as we know it today....all the land has been mapped and is now owned by someone. It really does take away the mystical, romantic nature of our world. Now think back 400 years where we didn't know if we went off in a ship if we'd return or what was out there. There could have been dragons over the next hill for all we knew! Ignorance IS bliss!

For the above reason is why I hope science doesn't uncover all the mysteries of our world. It would completely ruin the human experience.

At least there's still space where any number of speckle dragons could be hiding.
Why Evolution is True
Universe from nothing

I believe that the world we live in follows certain unchangeable laws.

I believe in the power of people to do good and evil.

Atheists believe in a lot of different things, and we differ a lot in our points of view. There are no beliefs held in common by all atheists. For instance, many atheists believe that people have "the right to die." I strongly disagree and hold that euthanasia is morally wrong and dangerous.

Any more questions?
