Singing

I'm mainly addressing atheists, but anyone is welcome to offer an opinion.

From How to irritate an atheist:
And these merit instant annihilation:
187) Sing.
I would guess that most of you do listen to music with vocals (whether it could be called "singing" is debatable :roll: ), so what kind of singing is that referring to, and why do you hate it?
"Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood;
Hallelujah! What a Saviour!"

"The Lord told Noah there's gonna be a floody, floody
The Lord told Noah there's gonna be a floody, floody
Get those children out of the muddy muddy
Children of the Lord

The Lord told Noah to build him an arky arky
The Lord told Noah to build him an arky arky
Build it out of gopher barky barky
Children of the Lord

etc. etc.
Just remember folks...if Creationists get their way, the above song will be Biology 101 in your local high school...

First, I would like to make it known that I haven't read the entire thread, only skimmed a good portion of it (I'm kind of pressed for time) yet I'd like to make my opinion known.

It seems like whe have come to the consensus that it's religious singing that athiests don't like? Well just in case, I don't dislike singing in any capacity. I listen to every type of music. Just to name a few CDs I own: Gustav Holst's "The Planets" as performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Sublime's 40oz to Freedom, Modest Mouse's The Moon and Antarctica, Pink Floyd's The Wall, Ayreon's The Human Equation, Tim McGraw's Live Like You Were Dyin', Cake's Fashion Nugget, mcchris's Knowing Is Half the Hassle, Nine Inch Nail's The Downward Spiral, In Flame's The Jester Race, and I could go on from CD to CD from genre to genre.

However, we are here to talk about religious music?

Yes, it is true that I cannot stand the Catholic Mass "hymns" that are more like mumbling and droning. However, to name a few more CDs: Pain of Salvation's Be (note: two urls are different: first one leads to Pain Of Salvation's site which hasn't been updated with info about the album BE, the second link has info about Be), Saviour Machine's Legend Part I, Part II, and Part III:I. And, to show that it's not just Christian Music:Jedi Mind Tricks's Violent By Deisgn

So, in conclusion of a much-to-long post, perhaps I am an exception to the rule, but I like a lot of relgious-themed music...just not the droning of every-day Catholic Mass hymn things. :roll:
