You really don't get the point about respect and dignity. Why should a woman be relegated to being only behind a great man? Why cannot women be great on their own standing?

Actually, the quote is, "Behind every great man there is a surprised woman". ;)

The Kingdom of Morocco - Morocco is a constitutional monarchy with an elected parliament. The legal system is only partly based on Islamic law. Morocco’s human rights record is mixed. Men are now permitted only one wife, as opposed to four as permitted in the Qu'ran.

The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria - Under the 1976 constitution Algeria is a multi-party state. According to the constitution, no political association may be formed if it is "based on differences in religion, language, race, gender or region." However, Sunni Muslim is listed as the state religion by the CIA. In its annual country report on human rights in Algeria practices released March 2006, the U.S. Department of State noted the persistence of a number of human rights problems in Algeria.

The Tunisian Republic - is one of the rare countries in the Arab world where women enjoy equal rights. Incidentally, it is also the only country in the Arab world where polygamy is forbidden by law. The Islamic party, Ennahdha, is banned.

The Arab Republic of Egypt - Laws based on Islamic and civil law. Several human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have for many years criticized Egypt's human rights record as poor. Some of the most serious human rights violations, according to Human Rights Watch's 2006 report on Egypt, are routine torture, arbitrary detentions and trials before military and state security courts. Discriminatory personal status laws governing marriage, divorce, custody and inheritance which put women at a disadvantage have also been cited. Consensual homosexual conduct between adults is criminalized under Egyptian law as a "practice of debauchery".
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

You do realize that in none of these countries the law allows women the "same rights" as the U.S. or Western Europe; moreover these are not countries "ruled by Islamic law". These countries are at best majority Muslim with a better human rights record than comparative nations in the Islamic world. As has been pointed out, many of these nations have achieved this through forced suppression of Islamic political power. Much like Turkey, the way to achieve even marginal human rights seems to be the forced removal of Islam and support of secular government.

But thank you mirou for making my point.

Much like Salman Rushdie has warned, a large part of the problem is Islam. Added to the repressive nature of this religion are anachronistic and primitive cultural practices compounded by political exploitation. The best step forward for the Islamic world would be to relegate religion to a minor cultural practice. This will not happen in our lifetimes, but at least the world has begun to speak out against the horrors of Islam.

Thank you, Rathpig and everyone else for asking about Islam.

I think that this link will be very helpful to you. It's Sheikh Yusuf Estes. It's quiet lengthy, but I hope you have time to listen to it, because it clears up a lot of questions that many posed not only in this thread but in other threads.

http:// fdc.aswatalislam.net/ Audios/ Lectures/ Yusuf Estes//Yusuf Estes - Muslims in the Modern Age - When Muslims follow the true teachings of Islam they will have the best society. mp3

Just copy and paste the link in your browser.

I wanted to quote these few lines from the link.

"The teaching (of Islam) is clear. What Muslims do is another matter. If Muslims follow Islam, and they used to follow it very nicely, you will see the best society on Earth. For over 1000 years, Islam was the very best in every direction and every possible place you could go. From China all the way to Spain."

This is just an excerpt of a very well lecture.

You do understand that this was a period of Muslim military conquest where Islam was spread by the sword in the exact manner suggest today by the Wahabbists. This "Golden Age" of Islam was the height of a theocratic tyranny.

Rather than directing people to religious propaganda, it would serve you to actually read the history of Islam from an objective viewpoint. It is a militaristic and destructive form of Abrahamism which offers no positive result.

Yes the problem is Muslims. Their first problem of course is Islam.

So according to you then, the problem with the Ummah is that it is filled with Muslims?

All these Islamic countries are abusive and destructive because they are populated with Muslims?

Are you saying that the problem with Islam is the Muslim?

That is a very strange way to answer my question. You seem to realize that Islamic countries are the worst form of totalitarian government, yet you remain a member of this totalitarian death cult. Clearly the best answer to Islam would be apostasy. Religions do not exist outside the religious population because these are human constructs. It isn't as in an actual deity exists. That is a ludicrous notion. Gods were created my man. The reverse is a mythology without the slightest evidence.

mirou,

I am glad that you realize the problem with Islam is the Muslim. This is the first step toward you choosing a rational path.

There are about 1,051 murders in France per year. If what you say is correct, then more than one third of the murders in France is spousal. Please provide evidence to support this assertion.
mirou wrote:Islam denie the sex before marriage, in France each 6 minutes a woman die because of an illegal abortion
Abortion in France has been legal since the passage of the Veil Law in 1975. If what you say is correct, then about 87,658 women die in France from illegal abortions each year. I find that difficult to believe in a country where abortion is legal. Please provide evidence to support your claim.
