The LORD of Glory

Post by placebofactor »

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2:7-8, “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world unto our glory: which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.”

The phrase, “Lord of Glory” is a Hebraism for Glorious Lord, a title applied to the Jehovah in the Old Testament, then revealed in the New.

Isaiah 33:21, “The glorious LORD (Jehovah) will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams;”

Psalms 24:8-10, “Who is the King of glory? The LORD (Jehovah) strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.”

Verse 10, “Who is this King of glory?

This is what Paul meant when he wrote, “We speak of the wisdom of God in a mystery.” Jesus was that mystery, the glorious LORD, the LORD of glory.”

Manoah, the father of Samson, asked the angel of the LORD, Judges 13:17, “What is your name?”

He answered, “Why ask you thus after my name, seeing it is secret?” An Old Testament secret, revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, the "Lord of glory."

Acts 7:2, “The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham,
He who was crucified as to his manhood, is the Lord of Glory, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

You have taken for granted a twisted verse or two that supposedly shows Jesus to be God, but that is not the case. The Father said that angels should worship Jesus, but not as God Almighty. He is "worshipped" as a strong, venerable (defined as "entitled to veneration on account of character, age, associations, etc."), important, powerful, respected individual.
I believe that one has a closed mind to Bible text, God the Father said to the Son, Your throne O God. I wonder why NASU rendered it almost all in uppercase, maybe to emphasize its importance. See below;

Heb 1:8 But of the Son He says,
"YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER,

AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM.
9 "YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS;
THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU
WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS."

onewithhim wrote:Jehovah never said, "Your throne O God." It is an improbable translation, ignoring the original verses from the Psalms that the writer of Hebrews was quoting. When you go back to the original verses in Psalms there is not "Your throne O God." The writer of the Psalms said, "Your divine throne will last forever." That is what the writer of Hebrews was saying also, because he copied the verse word-for-word. Not that Jesus was God but that he would get his power from God. "God is your throne forever" is more accurate. Look it up in a Tanakh, the Jewish Bible. Consider also the two possible translations of Hebrews 1:8. Which is most probable? Also, we can see in verse nine that Jesus has a God. That disputes the Jesus-is-Jehovah thing. "Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above they fellows." (Hebrews 1:9, KJV) Who is meant by "even thy God?" And did Jesus anoint himself? He said at Isaiah 61:1 that Jehovah anointed him. (He applied that to himself and Jehovah at Luke 4:18-21.) He wouldn't say that if he was Jehovah, would he?
You quote the translation, not the original. Why not come to the original? The Tanakh is written in Hebrew, not in English. See the Tanakh written in Hebrew and compare the Strong Numbers with the KJV of Psa 45:6 (7 in the Tanakh), it doesn't say what you've said.

I believe it proves you wrong.

Psa 45:7 כסאך H3678  אלהים H430  עולם H5769  ועד H5703  שׁבט H7626  מישׁר H4334  שׁבט H7626  מלכותך׃ H4438
Psa 45:6 Thy throne, H3678  O God, H430  is for ever H5769  and ever: H5703  the sceptre H7626  of thy kingdom H4438  is a right H4334  sceptre. H7626

That refers to the Ps. 45:7. And I think to understand it correctly, one should also read this:

I said, “You are gods, all of you are sons of the Most High. Nevertheless you shall die like men, and fall like one of the rulers.”
Ps. 82:6-7

So, there has been many that are called gods, sons of the Most High.

Bible tells that many have been called gods, but for us, disciples of Jesus there is only one true God.

… we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one. For though there are things that are called "gods," whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many "gods" and many "lords;" yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
1 Cor. 8:4-6

Yes, but there are no contentions that they are really God. Only on Jesus by the Arians.
If Jesus is "a god" to you, is He a "false god" or "a true god"?

I think the scriptures shows that there is only one true God, although many have been called gods. For example that the other gods die like men, is in my opinion a sign that the other gods are not truly like the God.

Before I proceed to prove that Jesus is true God.
I request you to answer specifically about Jesus, is He "a false god" to you or "a true god?"
Which of the two that best describe Jesus?

I believe Jesus is in the same way god as the other gods in this scripture:

I said, “You are gods, all of you are sons of the Most High. Nevertheless you shall die like men, and fall like one of the rulers.”
Ps. 82:6-7

That means, he is not the one and only true God, who Jesus calls his Father.

Jesus said to her, "Don't touch me, for I haven't yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
John 20:17
This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
John 17:3

If that means he is not the one and only true God.

But, I think the scriptures show, there are beings that have been called gods, even when they are not the one and only true God. And in that sense Jesus is not false god.

This is what king David said about Prince Michael/Christ (his Lord):

Psalm: 110:1 <A Psalm of David.> The "I AM" (God, our heavenly Father) said unto my Lord (Prince Michael/Christ), Sit thou at My (God's) right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Compare with:

1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.

God and Prince Michael/Christ are Spiritual Beings, as are the rest of the angels of heaven. And so are we. The difference with us being we are spiritual-Beings temporarily incarnated inside humans, and thus are human+Beings.

Numbers 23:19 God [is] NOT a man, that He should lie; NEITHER THE SON OF MAN, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do [it]? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?

John 4:23-24
4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
4:24 GOD [IS] A SPIRIT: and they that worship Him must worship [Him] with their spirit (Being) and in Truth.

Jesus WAS the mortal, human son of the virgin Mary. He was born in this world (in Bethlehem, of Judaea), was crucified and died in this world, and was raised/resurrected by God after three days and three nights.

Prince Michael, known here on Earth as The Messiah/Christ (the One Whom God Anointed) IS an immortal spiritual-Being, the firstborn/first-created Son of God. And it was by/through and for Christ, that everyone and everything else was created, with Father (God) teaching Prince Michael/Christ everything in the process.

Hebrews 1:1-6
1:1 God, Who at sundry times and in diverse manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the Prophets,
1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [His] Son, whom He hath appointed heir of ALL things, by whom also He made the worlds;
1:3 Who being the brightness of [His] glory, and the express image (likeness) of His person, and upholding all things by The Word of His power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of His Majesty on high;
1:4 Being MADE so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance (as the firstborn/first-created - Deut. 21:15-17; Col. 1:12-15; Rev. 3:14) obtained a more excellent name than they.
1:5 For unto which of the angels said He at any time, Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten (created) thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to Me a Son?
1:6 And again, when He bringeth in the first-begotten (first-created) into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

This is why Prince Michael/Christ is the ONLY Teacher (Matt. 23:10), the ONLY Good Shepherd (John 10:1-18), the ONLY Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5), and the ONLY High-Priest (Heb. 6:20) between God and mankind. The head of every man.

Sorry, I don't see where do you get the idea it is about Michael. Please explain why do you think so?
