None of the following is my personal opinion. The following facts come from the Jehovah's Witnesses publication, the Watchtower.
In a 1917 Watchtower commented on Revelation 9:11. They titled the article, “The Finished Mystery.” They wrote, “Whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon.” Then wrote, “he’s the bad one sure enough. But in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.” That is destroyer, but in plain English, his name is Satan, the Devil. This was in 1917.
Now let’s jump to 1969, in a Watchtower commentary titled, “Then is finished the Mystery of God.” Here’s what they claimed. In the Hebrew, his name is Abaddon, meaning “Destruction’; and in Greek it is Apollyon, meaning ‘Destroyer.”
Here comes their Bull-oney: They claim, quote, “All this plainly identifies the ‘angel’ as picturing Jesus Christ, the Son of Jehovah God.” Page 232.
Wow, Apollyon went from being Satan in 1917 to being Jesus Christ in 1969. Jesus is the destroyer, imagine that! These are the same people who claim their N.W.T. is without errors. This is the new light they claim to get now and then.
Your thoughts:
In their book “Divine Purpose,” the Witnesses claim that their history goes back 6000 years, further than any other religious denomination, and they are even older than the Jews. They claim that Abel was “The first of an unbroken line of Witnesses,” and that “Jesus' disciples were all Jehovah’s Witnesses,” pages 8-9. Obviously, they are claiming all the O.T. prophets and Kings for themselves as faithful witnesses of God. Okay, how can we date the age of their organization? It's by their first publication, called the Zion’s Watch Tower, published in July 1879. That’s when the Jehovah’s Witnesses were born.

Do you want to know how not to get aids? This was a subject the Witnesses had a great deal to write about. From 1986 until 1990, they devoted full pages on the subject in the Watchtower. One of the last entries under the title “Aids” on page 16, they wrote, “The best prevention is to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.” Of course, they never did support these claims with statistics. But what their elders had to deal with in their organization were cases of fornication and adultery, and a few cases of homosexuality. Of course, all churches have the same problems, but they never made such Bull-oney claims as the Witnesses.
At that time, there was a congregation in Massachusetts having a great deal of trouble. The Watchtower admitted that “Even some who have been prominent in Jehovah’s organization have succumbed to immoral practices, including homosexuality, wife swapping, and child molestation, with 36,638 individuals expelled in 1985 as unrepentant wrongdoers, the greater number of them for practicing immorality,” Watchtower January 1, 1986, page 13. Also, they expelled “over 40,000 in 1991,”
What could have gone wrong? Those who are without the person of the Holy Spirit will be forever lost; that’s what’s wrong!

To my Jehovah's Witness friends. Your silence on these articles is deafening. Maybe you know about the things I am posting, maybe not. But if I belonged to an organization, any organization that flip-flopped on so many issues, I'd be looking for a new home. What is posted comes directly from your publications, not mine. They are the words of the Watchtower, not my words. Your silence tells me you are either ashamed of what they have published and what they teach, or you don't care.
