The cross as dogma is painless speculation. The cross as lived suffering is anguish and glory__Thomas Kelly
If anyone would come after me let him deny himself and take up the cross and follow me__Jesus
Topic For Debate: Have modern Christians hoisted the cross upon an ideological Golgotha? Just an abstract playpen for conjecture. Has the Cross become a Christian playground? Does this show the cross to be false? Just another religion of proclamation by interpretation.
I've never met a Christian who lived the cross. I've read of few individuals that did, but their bones have long since turned to dust!
James and John requested to sit a Jesus' left and right, but a pair of crucified robbers had it instead. Simon boasted of his devotion to suffer prison or death, but a different Simon altogether carried the cross of Christ.
Modern Christians rant and rave over abstract curiosities. They devour themselves with utmost hostility over speculative interpretations, and treat non Christians with flippancy and mockery.
Paul talked about crucifying ego. He talked about considering one's intellectual acumen as garbage, and religious education as feces. He talked about pursuing humility to such an extent that private interpretations are trivial and empy until all that mattered is peace and goodwill among men, even if it meant submitting one's conscience to another's. I've never met a Christian who lived that way.
Vanity of Vanities saith the preacher, Christianity is vain!

Post #2I take it you use the expression "the cross" to be a metaphor for something but could you define your terms in explaining what it [the cross] is a metaphor for in the above question?RugMatic wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 12:52 pm

Re: The Cross As Dogma Is Painless Speculation
Post #3You're highlighting the gap between the cross as a lived reality and the cross as mere ideology. If modern Christianity is just intellectual posturing, it loses its meaning. But does this expose Christianity as false, or simply as something rarely lived?
