Is the smile a manmade Phenomenon?
NOTE: thje immages are to large but could not make them smaller
A smile is a smile
When a wolf shows his teeth,.,./\,./\.,.,
.,.,.,..,.He means business
When we humans show our teeth it’s called a smile
Is the difference an evolutionary thing and once upon a time we smiled for the same reason wolves smile today-?
Humans are the only animals that show their teeth in friendship
Humans are the only animals that show their teeth in friendship

For conversation’s sake, I have personally discovered that cats can reason out a problem and then carry it out. I have a glass sliding door that opens to my balcony. Most of the time I leave the door open about 5 inches. I then put a blocker between the other side of the door and the frame. A human older than ten cannot fit through the door.
Sometimes in the evening, I close the door to allow my a/c to cool the place.
One evening while I was asleep the cat butted its head against my head to wake me up. I just opened my eyes and looked at the cat. The cat reached out over my hand and extended her claws. And then she lightly pricked me.
All to get me to open the glass door.
I then get up, walk down a hall, across the Livingroom and then opened the door.
The cat is at my feet the entire way and the instant I open the door, out she goes.
This has happed several times.
I believe this shows a sign of reasoning and problem-solving.
Or so it seems to me, how about you?

Post #13Yes. It has been noted that animals can count and do quantitative reasoning. There's abundant evidence that they can formulate a plan of action and carry it out. One ancient writer described a dog looking for its master, tracking him by smell. It came to a fork in the road, and going down the left side, found no scent. It immediately ran to the right, apparently having reasoned that if it wasn't the left, it had to be the right.thomasdixon wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 11:22 pmThe Barbarian wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 10:43 am .,.,.,.,.,.,.,The entire article is well worth reading, if you have any interest in ethology.

Some ethologists claim dogs aren't as smart as wolves, because faced with a difficult task, wolves will try to figure it out, while dogs will look to the nearest human for help. This doesn't seem like lesser intelligence to me. Dogs use humans as a sort of Swiss Army knife.
"Hey, you with the thumbs. How about a little help here?"
Apparently, that's how your cat operates, too.

I can't entirely agree. I have a beagle/terrier mix that has been called the happiest dog in the world by the way she greets people. You can see the smile on her face by the way she pulls the corners of her mouth back. The rest of her body language display genuine friendliness.
